About CRS
CRS is an International non-governmental organization supporting relief and development work in over 100 countries around the world. CRS works to save, protect, and transform lives in need, without regard to race, religion, or nationality. CRS’ relief and development work are accomplished through programs such as emergency response, health, livelihoods, microfinance, and peacebuilding.
CRS has a long history of supporting local civil-society organizations in Somalia and has implemented development and emergency programming in multiple sectors, primarily supported by the United States Agency for International Development. CRS’ work in Somalia supports populations across 5 regions of Somalia, with emergency presence concentrated in the South-Central area.
Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has been working closely with and channelling resources and support to local organizations in Somalia since the 1960s and has implemented activities in Mogadishu since 2011, in Baidoa since 2012, and in Gedo region since 2014 with OFDA, FFP, and other foundation and private donor funding. Hundreds of thousands of people have benefited from CRS’ programs in Somalia since 2011. Currently CRS Somalia is leading Kaafia plus project, in partnership with Save Somalia Women and Children (SSWC), New ways organization, SOS Somalia and TROCAIRE.
Job Summary:
Reporting to the Administrative Officer, the Office Cleaner/Office Caretaker will be responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work environment for CRS Somalia staff. The role includes cleaning, dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and washing the office premises as directed by the Administrative Officer. Additionally, the Office Cleaner/Office Caretaker will be tasked with purchasing necessary items from local markets and attending to other office needs.This position requires a proactive and detail-oriented individual who can ensure a hygienic and comfortable workspace for all staff members.
Roles and Key Responsibilities:
- Daily cleaning of the CRS Somalia office.
- Maintaining the small patches of gardens around the building.
- Collection and disposal of garbage in a convenient manner.
- Cleaning windows and washing curtains when required.
- Prepare tea breaks for staff.
- Replenishing of bathroom supplies like toilet paper, hand sanitizer, soap, etc as needed.
- Cleaning of rugs, carpets, and upholstered furniture
- Responsible for running errands to the local market to replenish food items for staff’s tea
- Store management with support from Admin Officer.
- Perform dusting, disinfecting, and polishing of surfaces and furniture as needed.
- Responsible for reporting repairs and replacements encountered when executing daily tasks.
- Check the availability of bathroom and cleaning supplies and inform the supervisor for purchase.
- Ensuring that all the works done are according to supervisor’s directions.
- Performing any other duties and unforeseen tasks as requested by supervisor.
Skills and qualifications
Basic Qualifications
· Completion of 10th grade
· Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
· Practical experience using cleaning materials and tools.
Required/Desired Language
· Good oral & written communication in Somali, knowledge of English added advantage.
Travel – None.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
· Service-oriented with focus on meeting staff needs.
· Well-organized with ability to follow oral instructions.
Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A
Key Working Relationships:
Internal: Other cleaners, Procurement Officer, Operations Manager, CRS Somalia staff.
External: CRS drivers, security guards & visitors to CRS Somalia Office.
