POLISH HUMANITARIAN ACTION IS LOOKING FOR ACCOUNTANT

General information:

       Organization: Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH)

       Position: Accountant (National position)

       Location: Mogadishu, Somalia

       Starting date: 1st April 2024

       Reports to: Accounts Coordinator

        Duration: 1 year with possible extension depending on the performance & fund availability

       Application Deadline: 15th March 2024

About PAH:

Polish Humanitarian Action (PAH) is a non-governmental organization which mission it is to make the world a better place. For over 20 years, we have been providing relief in big and small emergencies worldwide alongside with running long-term missions in several countries in crisis.

Our interventions – of both humanitarian and development character– have been carried out in 44 countries so far. Our focus is on ensuring sustainable and stable development of regions suffering the consequences of war and/or natural disasters. We possess long-standing expertise in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), but also implement projects in Nutrition. For more information, please refer to www.pah.org.pl.

PAH Mission in Somalia:

PAH has been present in Somalia since 2011. With WASH, FSL and Nutrition programs PAH supported people from the most vulnerable communities in different regions in Somalia. Our primary focus is to provide safe drinking water through rehabilitation of water infrastructure, constructing water distribution systems, and constructing rain water reservoirs. In our work we also focus on other WASH components such as improvement of sanitary conditions, hygiene promotion to make our WASH interventions fully comprehensive. Our current donors are ECHO, GFFO, SHF and UNICEF. PAH programs targets the most vulnerable IDPs, host and rural communities as well as institutions in Banadir, Lower Shebelle, Middle Shebelle and Galmudug Region.

PAH in Somalia is looking for Accountant who will become part of our operation team. The person will hold the following responsibilities:

       Process payments to suppliers, contractors, and service providers, ensuring all necessary back-up documentation is verified, collected, and filed according to established PAH operating principles and procedures.

       Maintain the PAH’s bank accounts, including monitoring the account balance, outstanding checks, and other transactions.

       Preparing payment vouchers for admin and support costs (Tickets, staff travel costs, cash payments and office running costs).

       Making sure that all financial transactions and payments comply with PAH procurement policy and procedures and checks contracts with suppliers.

       Monitoring and verifying financial operations, advance requests, and settlements.

       Preparing accrual expenses on monthly basis (RMK)

       Monitoring cash records (including if line with cash management procedures)

       Monitoring and reconciliation of PAH bank accounts

       Ensuring that payroll and other entitlements are duly processed.

       Recording transaction on BC Central on monthly basis (Bank, cash, payroll, accruals, advances & invoices)

       Making corrections on timely manner (both in documentations and BC Central)

       Archiving PAH Financial documents on monthly basis.

Skills and qualifications

       Bachelor’s degree in areas such as accounting/finance/economics/Business.

       (Alternatively) 3 years of work experience with similar responsibilities

       Strong in MS Office, in particular Excel

       Ease at using online ERP platforms and applications.

       Fluent in Somali and English languages.

       High ethical standards

       Developed organizational and planning skills.

       Strong analytical skills

       Strong communication skills

       Ability to work with data and present information in clear manner.

       Focus on results and meeting deadlines.

       Ability to work effectively under pressure and fast-paced environment.
