    Finance Officer based in Mogadishu (1 Position)

    Position Title: Finance Officer

    Reporting to: Finance Manager

    Duty Station: Mogadishu-Somalia

    Employment period: Starting in October 2024, 1 Year with the possibility of extension

    Background:

Juba Foundation is a Somali National organization with 20 years of experience, with operations throughout Somalia. Our action is guided by the humanitarian principles and standards.

    Purpose of the position:

    Under supervision of Finance Manager, finance officer is responsible for day-to-day task management within the organization. This role requires multitasking across range of responsibilities including works closely with Finance Manager, Senior Coordinators, HR/Admin manager, other finance staff in JF offices, Procurement & Logistics team, and relevant staff to ensure relevant duties are well coordinated and maintained properly.

     Finance Responsibilities

    • Check and review finance support documents submitted for payment if approved by the line manager and related staff before preparation of payment documents
    • Review accounting transactions, including coding of payment vouchers.
    • Ensure that all balance sheet accounts are monthly reconciled.
    • Entering processing of the data into QuickBooks finance system
    • Process and make payments via bank or cash, when necessary, as per the approved budget and ensure the proper authorization is obtained for all disbursements and proper financial documents are used
    • In cooperation with relevant program or support staff, finance assistant, ensure proper accurate documentation for a monthly payment of bills for service, employment, lease contracts etc.
    • Ensure that a transparent, accurate, and user-friendly financial filing system of all financial documents is always maintained
    • Manage and replenish Petty cash, according to the procedures and prepare monthly closing of petty cash when needed.
    • Review and compute travel claims and verify the authenticity of the supporting documents provided.
    • Ensure that all staff advances are cleared and supporting documents are complete.
    • Undertake monthly closing procedures including reconciliations of the bank, petty cash, and advances monthly basis.
    • Assist Senior Finance Manager in the facilitation of internal and external audit procedures as required
    • Perform any other duties given by the line manager when needed

    Skills and Qualifications

    Skills and Qualifications

    • University bachelor’s degree in accounting or higher
    • Minimum 3 years working experience in accounting and administration
    • Knowledge and experience of working on accounting software Quick Books
    • Previous experience working in INGOs
    • Ability to analyze payment documents before processing
    • Detail oriented, accountability, task prioritizing skills
    • Excellent communication and coordination skills
    • Ability to establish relationships with other relevant stakeholders instantly and easily
    • Problem solving skills
    • Fluency in English
    • Flexibility for travelling when needed
    • Confident in security and safety management
    • Ability to work under pressure and in a stressful environment
    • Cultural sensitivity and inter-cultural communication skills
