Background
Somali-Sudanese Specialized Hospital is a Referral Hospital with multiple units that is founded by Somali business elites to meet the needs of the Somali people in providing health care services. it has been operating since 2014. The headquarter of the hospital is located in Hodan district in Mogadishu - Somalia. The hospital runs four other branches that are located in other districts within Mogadishu. The hospital provides excellent health care services and has reduced the chances of patients traveling abroad in seeking further medications. The hospital employs both qualified Somalis and experts from different nationalities.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Medical Services, the post holder will be responsible for providing expert professional advice, guidance, and support on maternity, and midwifery services (pregnancy care, labor, and birth) and to ensure effective management of the midwives staff.
The post holder will develop, maintain and provide assurance on clinical and operational procedures, systems, and processes, specifically on clinical risk management; health and safety of the patients, handling complaints, and reporting incidents and resolution.

Duties and responsibilities:
- Develop and implement guidelines for midwives in order to enhance professional midwifery practices.
- Guiding, coaching, and tutoring midwives staff and student midwives.
- Support midwives in all phases of their personal career goals.
- Represent Midwifery in meetings with OB/GYN team and the hospital management.
- Supervise midwifery operations by establishing and monitoring staffing patterns.
- Receive the pregnant mother in the appropriate place and assess her health conditions.
- Ensure that mothers are handled properly and cared for in case of emergency and assisted them in labour.
- Offering concrete advice to parents in the daily care of their newborn babies
- Collaborate with G.P. doctors and ensure that they develop a plan for proper patient care.
- Guide and provide information about pain relief, birth positions, and delivery options.
- Ensure that the midwives staff monitors foetal and maternal well–being in all stages of labor.
- Identify the signs and symptoms of high-risk pregnancies and complicated labor and contact the G.P. doctors for further assistance.
- Ensure the safety of both mother and newborn during and after childbirth.
- Ensure that accurate clinical procedures are followed during labour and delivery.
- Offer advice and help parents to cope with miscarriage, termination of pregnancy, stillbirth, and neonatal death.
- Provide psycho-social support and reassurance to the coupled and their relatives.
- Collaborate with physicians and the G.P. doctors for the follow–up of the mother.
- Ensure that all patient diagnostic testing is done within the required time and that patients are monitored well.
- Ensure effective coordination and working relation between the midwives staff.
- Ensure that pregnant women are assessed, samples taken, pulses, body temperatures, blood pressure, and screening tests are done within the required time frame.
- Ensure that the patient’s medications are given at the right time without any delay. (Tablets, injections, and infusions)
- Ensure the assignment of staff and senior volunteers to patients for proper monitoring.
Skills and qualifications
Education requirement:
- bachelor's degree in midwifery is required
- Post-graduate training/qualification in midwifery is required
- Masters degree in health-related courses is an added advantage.
Skills and Experience Requirements.
- Broad range of clinical midwifery experience acquired through significant practice at a senior level is highly needed.
- Significant experience in leading clinical midwives teams in a professional manner.
- Proven experience in leading, mentoring, coaching, and training the midwifery workforce.
- Must have eight ( 8 ) years of management experience in leading the midwifery workforce.
- Must have worked for a known hospital with a high reputation.
- Must be a Somali citizen aged 32 years and above.
- Must have Leadership skills and ability to solve problems and motivate a team.
- Must have the ability to build professional relationships with staff and clients.
Language requirement.
- Fluent in the Somali language.
- Average in the English language.
- Average in the Arabic language.
