Background
iMMAP Inc. Somalia HIST was established in 2023 to enhance support for humanitarian actors in the country through tailored information management (IM) services. The primary objective is to utilize the Humanitarian Information Support Team (HIST) to effectively tackle the multifaceted challenges arising from complex crises in Somalia. Services provided by iMMAP Inc. include comprehensive assistance in data collection through specialized tools, expertise in data analysis and visualization, and capacity-building initiatives through training programs for humanitarian actors in Somalia. iMMAP provides support to organizations like the UNOCHA, Clusters, NGOs, the Somalia Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and the Somalia NGO Consortium.
Scope of Work
The Junior Information Management Officer is tasked to develop and deliver quality IM service outputs and capacity-building training for partners. He/She will support all goals and strategies of the iMMAP Inc. program in its work with national partners, international partners, and stakeholders. Based on IM service requests from humanitarian responders submitted through the HIST service desk, the Junior IMO will work closely with the partner organizations.
Description of Duties:
All of the below will be based on the needs of the partners, the tasks include;
Infographics & Maps
- Design sector-specific or multi-sector humanitarian interactive dashboards by processing data from different sources which will be provided by the client cluster or organization.
- In close collaboration with the requesting humanitarian clusters, produce sector-specific periodic humanitarian snapshots and factsheets.
- Produce gap analysis by location and project activities.
- Produce high‐quality map products and online services as per the specifications provided by the humanitarian clusters or organizations.
- Produce cluster-specific location prioritization mapping for targeting purposes.
Coordination
- Collect, consolidate, clean, process and produce 3W/4W/5W matrix, summary tables and visuals.
- Design presentation on humanitarian response activities progress for ad hoc and scheduled cluster meetings.
- Consider and propose options for consolidated/themed reports, from HIST IM product outputs to improve synergies and cross-thematic areas analysis.
Needs Analysis
- Manage platforms and tools that support data collection and analysis such as Kobo Toolbox and Open Data Kit (ODK).
- Design and conduct presentation on the results of the data analysis findings if needed.
Data Management
- Design, develop and manage databases, spreadsheets, and other data tools.
- Consolidate operational information on a regular schedule to support analysis, including compiling and updating available GIS data (GPS tracking, data from other agencies, etc.).
- Understand, document, and ensure the quality of high‐value humanitarian data for accuracy, consistency, and comparability; contribute to planning and monitoring reports.
Skills and qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in information management or data science, information systems, computer science, statistics, GIS, or a related field.
Experience
- 02 years of relevant experience in data/information management and analysis work, preferably with the humanitarian ecosystem is required.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially in Microsoft Excel.
- Prior experience working in a humanitarian organization is preferable
- Knowledge and practical experience with current GIS software (ArcGIS, Google Earth, QGIS etc)
- Capacity-building training experience for local NGOs and government organizations
- Knowledge and practical experience of Adobe Illustrator
- Experience in designing dashboards and infographics.
- Effective communication skills to work among clusters, agencies, humanitarian partners, and Government counterparts.
- High level of written and spoken English and native Somali language speaker
