Project Summary: 

The anticipated five-year project will support the implementation of Outreach and Communication Strategies, as well as regional communications for USAID/Kenya and East Africa (USAID/KEA) and USAID/Somalia. The project will use strategic communications approaches to engage stakeholders within Kenya, East Africa, and Somalia on U.S. Government strategic objectives.

Position Summary:

The Production Lead will be part of a communications team on the USAID/KEA Communication for Development Support project. This position will work full-time at MSI Nairobi field office. The Lead will also drive the creation, coordination, publication, and analysis of USAID/KEA’s visual storytelling assets, namely photo, video, and audio. This position will provide creative, strategic, and tactical support on campaigns and activities across the project.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all photo and video coverage across staff, consultants, and project partners including in-person photography, videography, and coordination of consultant support.
  • Design photography and video projects from concept to finished product using established workflows that include planning, capture field work and consent post-production and dissemination.
  • Track incoming and anticipated content needs.
  • Guide storyboarding sessions across the project and USAID teams.
  • Lead or contribute to in-house training on photography/videography topics.
  • Provide training and guidance to one intern supporting the photography and videography workstream.
  • Coordinate with leadership clients as well as photography and videography vendors to create and maintain a cloud-based audio-visual library that can be easily transferred to USAID.
  • Manage YouTube channel, including uploading and captioning all public videos and tracking performance.
  • Develop social media content and toolkits with draft messages, corresponding links, and appropriate images on a regular basis.
  • Work with the Social Media Specialist to create compelling and shareable visuals such as short videos that help the Mission’s handles “stand out” on social media.
  • Schedule and post social media content.

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Minimum five years of relevant professional experience in content production, including in digital technologies such as Meta Ads, Twitter Ads, Brandwatch, or others is required.
  • Experience with non-governmental organizations, donors, and/or agency or mass media is preferred.
  • Knowledge of websites, social networking, email, blogging, photography, and videography to seamlessly apply to multiple scenarios is required.
  • Experience working and traveling in Kenya and in-depth understanding of Kenyan culture, geography, and development issues is required.
  • Experience in building the capacity of others on how to develop and produce content is preferred.
  • Experience with managing communications specialists, consultants and user-generated content is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal fluency in English and Kiswahili is required.
