Job description
DOWLADDA KOONFUR
GALBEED EE SOOMAALIYA
WASAARADDA DHALLINYARADA IYO CAYAARAHA
BACKGROUND
Baidoa Youth Hub is a new and purpose-built youth Centre in the heart of the interim capital of the South-West State (SWS) of Somalia. Funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and implemented by UN-Habitat with the cooperation of the South-West State Ministry of Youth and Sports (SWS-MoYS) of Somalia. The state government has been instrumental in instigating service provision to children and young people and donated a strategic public land as a safe and generative space for the benefit of young citizens of Baidoa and to support holistic youth development in the fields of sports, recreation and livelihoods. The project sponsoring the facility is called ‘Youth and Urban Regeneration Somalia (YOURS) Project’, which has been underway to contribute to reduced spatial urban inequalities by promoting sustainable youth development, urban regeneration and re-integration of marginalized communities.
With a disproportionately large number of children and young people living in the city, there is an imperative need to fill in the service gap for both inner city residents and migrant communities living on the city boundaries. Many young people both from indigenous and migrant communities do not have adequate facilities, especially in recreation and sporting, which can result in a negative impact on peace and security. UN-Habitat has constructed the Baidoa Youth Hub, in Baidoa, Somalia which aims to provide a safe, generative and friendly space where all young people are welcome to learn, play, grow and develop their resilience. The youth centre opened at Isha District, Baidoa in September 2023.
