SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organization to which all SOS Children’s Villages including SOS Children’s Villages Somalia Association is affiliated. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia has officially been working in Somalia since 1985. SOS is currently working in 134 countries worldwide. We are committed to the welfare of children – often throughout the whole of their childhood, and to strengthening families and communities as a preventive measure in the fight against abandonment and social neglect. We also run education and health facilities. With the SOS Children’s Village concept, the organization pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children. SOS Children’s Villages Somalia current works in three regions; Banadir Regions (Heliwa, Wadajir, Dharkenley and Dayninle districts) southwest-state (Baidoa, BurHakaba, Berdale,Qasaxdhere and Hudur) Hirshabelle State (Jowhar,Adale & Balcad)

Position title: Finance Assistant
Reporting to: Finance Officer
Location: Baidoa-SW -Somalia
Job summary:
The Finance Assistant is responsible for fulfilling the financial requirements SOS Children Villages Somalia. In particular, s/he ensures that all SOS financial procedures and requirements are implemented and adhered. In addition, s/he ensures that SOS Procurement procedures and policies are also adhered
Job Responsibilities:
Main duties and Responsibilities:
➢ Prepares payment vouchers, cheque and petty cash payments.
➢ Ensures that all invoices are paid promptly and properly supported to protect the reputation of SOS Children’s Villages.
➢ Prepares monthly Bank Registers. Submits registers, together with all supporting receipts and vouchers. To the Senior finance Officer.
➢ Manages all Dahabshil cash accounts and ensures balances are reconciled with the cashbooks at all times.
➢ Assists in the financial audits, if and when required
➢ Participate annual external financial audits for specific projects monitoring/reviews/audits and the implementation of action plans
➢ Be part of project audit process as well as in the annual general audit of SOS Somalia ·
➢ Maintains an efficient and effective filing system for finance department. ·
➢ Prepares, presents, administers and controls travel claims for senior SOS staff. ·
➢ Ensuring accurate account back is done once the staff is back from the travel. ·
➢ Performs all bank account reconciliations on a monthly basis and when needed, communicates with the bank to understand and reconcile any discrepancies
➢ Prepares and monitors project expenditures, ensuring the facility is run as economically as possible, in accordance with the provisions of the annual budget. Reports any irregularities to Senior Finance Officer
➢ Maintain and Ensure proper filing system and back up of financial documents for ease of retrieval during audits.
➢ The Finance Assistant will closely work with and report directly with Finance Officer
➢ He/she will also work with all SOS Children’s Village departments including HR department, Program department, Administration, Logistic department and Monitoring and Evaluation department.
➢ The accountant is be expected to work closely with suppliers/partner staff etc.
➢ To carry-out any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by the supervisor
Skills and qualifications
Job competencies:
Essential
➢ Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, Economics (SME development), business studies, development or related field
➢ Minimum 2 years of progressive professional experience in project implementation preferably in the field of advocacy, private sector development, SME growth promotion, Education, employment generation and youth/women entrepreneurship enhancement
➢ Excellent command in Somali and English languages
➢ Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
➢ Networking skills with the ability to develop synergy with a range of project stakeholders
➢ Basic knowledge and experience in data collection and management
➢ Proactive, result oriented, independent, able to identify and carry out duties with minimum supervision
➢ Willingness to work in a multicultural environment
