Job Title: Education Project Officer
Location: Baidoa
Direct Line Manager: Project Coordinator

Job Summary:
education officer will support in the implementation of the Educare education and child protection interventions in all the targeted schools in Baidoa. The officer will report to the Family strengthening project coordinator and will closely working with national education coordinator. The incumbent supports the programme locations to achieve the highest education performance according to set standards for programme participants.
Main duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and provide technical leadership for all the education activities, including leading and coordinating the non-formal education program and systems support activities for the project
- Lead the implementation of the education activities in all the targeted schools in Baidoa.
- Facilitate and coordinate all education intervention of the SOS Somalia Baidoa office.
- Lead all the education assessments and identify education gaps and provide detail analysis of the education needs in south west state of Somalia.
- Work closely with the district education officer and ministry of education in south-west state of Somalia.
- Support the formation of the community education committees (CECs) in all project target locations and closely working with them.
- Develop education action plans and lead the implementation of the action plan by working closely with different stakeholders and consulting with SOS Somalia National education coordinator.
- Provide support to schools’ principals and teachers on school management, in-service staff training and school development planning.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual area level education reports and share it with national education coordinator.
- Coordinate internal assessment and provide support to the assessment team as necessary.
- Support programme locations to ensure that the educational needs and abilities of each child are addressed through continuous monitoring and reviewing of each child’s progress.
- Coordinate the development of the children’s academic performance in correlation with teachers’ performance.
- Work in cooperation with the national education coordinator and the pedagogical staff to plan educational programmes geared to the individual needs of each child and conduct regular reviews of such programmes.
- Facilitate in the identification of children with educational learning difficulties and other problems and initiated
- Support the established child right clubs and trained them on various educational and protection themes that relevant to their growth and development.
- Assessment teachers’ performance and initiated capacity building support corresponding to the needs identified.
- Plan and facilitate regular meetings with all staff including Principals, head teachers & Teachers to discuss current activities, problems, concerns and new ideas, in order to ensure open communication and co-operation.
- Holds regular reviews and annual performance appraisals with pedagogical & school administrative staff to assess their performance and identify areas for development.
- Oversee training, coaching and on-going support of teachers, educators and learning facilitators in order to improve instructional practices in literacy, numeracy and social and emotional skills of the learners in schools and technical institutions.
- Upholds the rights and responsibilities of each staff member, ensuring that a positive degree of discipline is maintained, and that a healthy relationship exists at all times between SOS Children's Villages Somalia staff and children.
- Perform any other reasonable task as assigned by the immediate supervisor from time to time.
Skills and qualifications
- Candidate must have completed a Bachelor degree in Education from recognized institution of learning.
- A minimum of the 5 years working experience is required.
- Candidate with previously working experience in education in emergency is preferred
- Good computer skills in programs including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to work under pressure in challenging working and living conditions
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Excellent spoken and technical writing ability in English, including report writing
- Ability to work effectively with other people both as an individual and as a member of a group
- Excellent communications and presentation skills.
- Passionate about childcare and development.
