Job description

TITLE:  Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Interns (2)

TEAM/PROGRAMME: PDQ (REALM team)

LOCATION: South west State (Baidoa)

GRADE:CONTRACT LENGTH: six (6) months

CHILD SAFEGUARDING: (select only one)

Level 3:  the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

 

ROLE PURPOSE:

To support the delivery of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL) strategy, policy and practice by supporting the REALM staff in their recording, analysis and dissemination of CRM data, and coordinate CRM information management and reporting systems. The post holder will also support the REALM Officers in hiring and supervising enumerators, will be responsibilities for proactive call data quality checks, the post holder will manage and follow up enumerator payments, will also manage mobile tablets/smart phone for data collection.

Role Dimensions:

Save the Children operates across all zones in Somalia and currently has three main area offices and additional 11 field offices. Programmatically Somalia is a large Country Office with more than $110million annual budget and staff over 650 staff.

The incumbent will work closely with the Research, Evaluations, Accountability, Learning and Monitoring (REALM) team and program team.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Support the delivery of effective programmes in both humanitarian and development contexts by;

·         Supporting MEAL team on establishing robust MEAL systems in order to improve programme quality.

·         Provide administrative support to the MEAL team in planning and implementing projects

·         Support the MEAL team in compilation of field monitoring reports and upload them into MEAL action tracker.

·         Participate in data collection, cleaning and analysis and report writing.

·         Maintain a tracking system of all MEAL activities to improve support in all the thematic sectors.

·         Compile monthly output data from all emergency programs, validate the quality of the data reported and report to the area level focal person.

·         Compile Indicator Performance Tracking Table (IPTT) on monthly basis.

·         Complying with and promoting save the children’s global policies such as safeguarding, whistle blowing fraud, health and safety policies.

·         Collect beneficiary feedback through the appropriate feedback mechanisms, channel the feedback to program team and give the appropriate response to the beneficiary.

·         Train enumerators on data collection processes, methodologies and tool to ensure quality data is collected.

·         Perform other duties assigned by the line manager.

Skills and qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS 

·         Bachelors degree/Diploma in social science, development studies, economics, statistics, public health and other related qualifications.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

·         Basic understanding of M&E systems and/or accountability mechanisms in both humanitarian and developmental responses is an added value

·         Computer literacy, particularly in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; knowledge of other data analysis software such STATA, SPSS, etc, will be an added value.

·         Willingness to improve planning, coordination, and reporting skills

·         Strong communication and interpersonal skills

·         Willingness to work and travel in often difficult and insecure environments;

·         Commitment to Save the Children values.

Desirable

·         Awareness of international accountability standards including core humanitarian standards and a demonstrated commitment to promoting these standards in ways of working and project implementation.

·         Experience of working with an international NGO in Somalia.

·         Experience of social work in local communities.

·         Experience of effectively communicating findings to internal/external stakeholders.

·         Experience in child friendly accountability systems.

·         Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies.

·         Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international and matrix management environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
