Countering Harmful Practices across Eastern Africa: Future for Bint Project
1. Position Details
- Job Title: Project Officer
- Project: Countering Harmful Practices across East Africa: Future4Binti Project
- Location: Borama, Awdal Region (with regular field travel)
- Reporting To: Program Coordinator
- Supervises: Community Mobilizers/champions of change,Gender and Child protection desks and Youth-Friendly corners in health centers.
- Contract Type: Fixed term
- Duration: 12 months, (renewable subject to performance and funding])
- Start Date: Immediately after selection confirmation
2. Organizational Background
UBAH Inspire Initiative Organization is a women-led, non-governmental organization established to address the diverse needs of women, girls and youth through a holistic approach centered around sports, arts, networking, education, and overall wellbeing. 3. Project Background
The Countering Harmful Practices: Future4Binti Project seeks to reduce harmful traditional practices—particularly Child, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM) and Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C)—while advancing gender equality and the empowerment of girls. The project adopts a community‑driven, multi‑stakeholder approach to address the root causes of harmful practices and strengthen local systems of protection.
The initiative focuses on building the capacity of local civil society organizations (CSOs) to prevent and respond to harmful practices, including CEFM, FGM/C, and Gender‑Based Violence (GBV) across Somalia/Somaliland’s Amhara, Oromia, Somali, and Afar regions. Through a community‑based model, the project engages traditional leaders, religious leaders, women’s groups, youth networks, health workers, and other key influencers to foster sustainable behavioural and social change.
Collaboration is central to the project’s success. The project office will work closely with national and local government authorities, Amref Health Africa, and local implementing partners to ensure coordinated action, effective problem‑solving, and alignment with national frameworks. This collective approach strengthens accountability, enhances community ownership, and supports the achievement of long‑term project outcomes.
The role associated with this project will be responsible for the day‑to‑day coordination, monitoring, and reporting of all project activities. This includes ensuring that implementation aligns with approved work plans, budgets, and donor requirements, while maintaining strong relationships with partners and stakeholders to drive progress toward the project’s goals.
4. Purpose of the Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to recruit a project officer that provides strategic and operational support to the Countering of Harmful Practices: Future4Binti Project by ensuring effective coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of all project activities. The assignment aims to strengthen the project’s capacity to prevent and respond to harmful traditional practices—particularly Child, Early and Forced Marriage (CEFM), Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) and Gender‑Based Violence (GBV) through a community‑based, inclusive and sustainable multi‑stakeholder approach.
5. Scope of Work and Key Responsibilities
5.1 Project Planning and Implementation
- Support the development and execution of detailed work plans and activity schedules
- Implement project activities in accordance with approved plans and budgets
- Ensure timely delivery of outputs and achievement of targets
- Identify challenges and propose practical solutions
5.2 Community Engagement and Mobilization
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with community stakeholders
- Facilitate community dialogues, awareness campaigns, and training sessions
- Promote inclusive participation, particularly of women, girls, and marginalized groups
- Support behavioural change initiatives addressing harmful practices
5.3 Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL)
- Collect, verify, and report data on project indicators
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project records and documentation
- Contribute to baseline, midline, and endline assessments
- Document success stories, lessons learned, and best practices
5.4 Coordination and Representation
- Coordinate with local authorities, partner organizations, and community-based structures
- Participate in relevant coordination forums and working groups
- Represent the organization in field-level engagements as required
5.5 Safeguarding, Protection, and Compliance
- Ensure adherence to safeguarding, child protection, and gender policies
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards in all activities
- Report any safeguarding concerns or incidents promptly
- Ensure activities are conflict-sensitive and culturally appropriate
5.6 Financial and Administrative Support
- Assist in activity budgeting and expenditure tracking
- Ensure proper use of project resources
- Support procurement and logistics for field activities
6. Deliverables
The Project Officer will be responsible for delivering:
- Approved and implemented activity work plans
- Weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports
- Monitoring data and indicator tracking tools
- Training and community engagement reports
- Case studies, success stories, and documentation
- Field visit and coordination meeting reports
Skills and qualifications
7. Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Reproductive Health, Development Studies, Project management, Gender Studies, or a related field
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in NGO or development work in the areas of Gender equality, empowerment of women advocacy, child protection, GBV and FGM/C
- Demonstrated experience in gender, protection, or community-based programming

- The position is based in Borama with frequent travel to project sites
