VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT:
Title: Gender Officer
Location: Burao, Togdheer, Somaliland.
Reporting to: Program Manager
The purpose of the position
The Gender Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, and reporting to the program manager.
He/she will ensure efficient utilization of project resources for the intended purpose through effective planning and monitoring and will ensure the use of appropriate, cost-effective, and innovative approaches.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct GBV prevention, mitigation, and mainstreaming and advocacy sessions with the participation of people from GBV sub-clusters, including government.
- Work closely with the GBV Project officer to Initiate planning for longer-term GBV prevention and response activities, including referral pathway and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain, monitor and measure GBV project implementation and contribute to effective information management on GBV survivors, adhering to the national guidance on case management of survivors.
- Closely work with case workers, to ensure that best practices are respected and international standards are met in responding and preventing GBV.
- Engage with the community and community representatives to understand needs and gaps in gender-related responses and programming.
- Participate in capacity building initiatives for staff, partners, and other stakeholders to ensure quality and comprehensive delivery of project activities.
- Conduct gender awareness sessions at the community level for target communities.
- Develop plans and activities in line with the project.
- Conduct monitoring of the project activities to ensure standards are followed.
- Oversee the case management of the project and supervise case workers to implement it effectively.
- Overall management of field-based activities.
- Ensure timely filing and documentation of related reports, progress, and achievements.
- Submit quality reports as scheduled.
- Carryout any other duties as outlined by the supervisor.
Skills and qualifications
- Completion of a university degree qualification in the relevant field (e.g. gender studies, law, social work, other social science studies).
- At least 2 years’ experience of working on women’s empowerment, leadership, and gender related programs
- Knowledge and understanding of gender and gender equality, protection risks, community driven leadership and governance in Somaliland
- Good coordination, communication, and community facilitation skills- with communities, partners, and local authorities
- Experience in establishing women’s groups at the community level and training them on identifying gender risks that affect women and girls and how to address those issues at the community level.
- Ability to build the knowledge and capacity of women's groups on gender protection interventions
- Ability to build strong networks with communities, partners, local civil societies and local authorities
- Experience in undertaking monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning in project implementation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Good knowledge of written and spoken English and good report writing skills
- Commitment to humanitarian principles, safeguarding principles, ISF and BVO principles, and the value of accountability, inclusiveness, empowerment, and valuing diversity
- Willingness to be based in Burao and frequently travel to field locations ( Odweyne)

- excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of professional and national backgrounds
- You must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, well-organized, and capable of working under pressure.
- You may be required to work irregular hours in accordance with the needs of the role;
