Job description
. Organization and Position Overview
Welthungerhilfe is a German-based international non-profit humanitarian and development organization. The ultimate vision of Welthungerhilfe is to see a world without hunger and poverty. WHH has been working in four regions of Somaliland (Awdal, Maroodi-jex, Toghdeer and Sanaag) since 2001 with multisector interventions. It secures funding mainly from German Government external cooperation (BMZ, AA) and private donors of Germany for its interventions in Somaliland.
WHH seek to engage an experienced individual to fill the position of expert under rural income generating measures and rural value chains. In brief, the successful candidate will be responsible for income generating activities, establishment of cooperatives, market assessments and capacity building of targeted groups and individuals through relevant trainings, trouble shooting and follow-up.
Duties and Areas of Responsibility
1) H/She will be responsible for establishing cooperatives or other producer groups, capacitate them to generate income and provision of periodic capacity building training to develop them in line with identified weaknesses.
2) Under agriculture, horticulture, and animal husbandry (production) He /She will guide farmers on post-harvest handling, storage, and processing, improved food safety and security, market-oriented animal management, improved market linkages, business development, new product marketing and branding and regional trade facilitation and capacity building of already existing project partners.
3) He /She will conduct thorough market assessment to guide in commodity pricing, advertising, and product positioning.
4) The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting production and marketing cost analysis to advise producers on pricing.
5) H/She will provide periodic training to producers in basic bookkeeping and business analysis.
6) H/She will advise on good approaches on how to cooperate with key competitors of the same products produced by the cooperatives linked to the project.
7) Work closely with cooperatives such as tree nurseries for useful tree species, improved fodder production, livestock and its products and apiculture to see their long-term sustainability in terms of income generation, aimed at strengthening the economic independence of the cooperatives.
8) She/He will play a key role in value chain innovation and strengthen existing ideas such as fodder and honey production and sales in protected forest (PFM) sites
9) Provide periodic support to IGA groups/cooperatives in creating rules, regulations and proper record keeping, aimed at strengthening the group’s focus to achieve long-term impact.
10) He/ She should be able to critically analyze business related risk levels and recommend strong remedial measures to the cooperatives/IGA groups.
11) Create strong links with relevant stakeholders involved in value chain process within project target areas.
12) Offer professional training on marketing to the established groups e.g., cooperatives, income generating groups among others.

Skills and qualifications
Education and Experience
1) Degree in Agriculture/Business with strong experience in value addition projects.
2) 3 - 5 years of work experience as income generation activities, establishment of cooperatives, market assessments and etc in Somaliland
3) Strong technical report writing skills
4) Computer skills
5) Fluent English and Somali language required
6) Strong interpersonal skills and a team player
7) Able and willing to stay extended periods under simple rural conditions.
8) An understanding of the under-exploited roles of women and commitment to support women-in-business opportunities.

IV. Language Requirement
Proficiency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali is a requirement.
