BACKGROUND
Lifeline Gedo (LLG) is national non-governmental humanitarian organization dedicated towards ensuring that local communities in Somalia are resilient and able to cope with perennial shocks that threaten their livelihoods year in year out. LLG engages in long-term development work, responds to emergency situations, and seeks to address the root causes of poverty.
1. POSITION INFORMATION
Position Title: Health and Nutrition officer (1 positions))
Duty Station: Burdhuubo, Gedo, Somalia
Organizational Unit: Programmes
Reporting Directly To : Team-Leader
Overall Supervision By : Health and Nutrition Coordinator.
Remuneration: Negotiable
Managerial Responsibility : None.
Duration: 6 months with possibility of extension.
Directly Reporting Staff : Qualified Nurse, Q-midwifery, Auxiliary, EPI and screener
2. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE
Reporting to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator, The Health and Nutrition Project Officer is responsible for providing oversight and support to the LLG supported Health and Nutrition Program in, Gedo region. This Position will be based in Buurdhubo office, but with most of the time spending at project sites to provide technical guidance and oversight to the day-to-day activities
Job Summary:
In collaboration with health and Nutrition coordinator, The Health and Nutrition Project Officer is responsible for providing oversight and support to the LLG supported Health and Nutrition Program in Belet-hawa, Gedo region. This Position will be based in Belet-hawa office, but with most of the time spending at project sites to provide technical guidance and oversight to the day-to-day activities.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
ü Provide technical oversight and support to all health and nutrition activities oversight across World bank supported Mobile Clinics
ü Provide support and technical guidance to the Mobile Clinics teams in implementing the Project in conjunction with the IYCF and Community mobilization officer, train and coach CHWs and staff of Life Line Gedo.
ü Provide regular and routine on-the-job mentorship to health workers staff at the Mobile Clinics
ü In collaboration with IYCF and Community Mobilization officer, develop or adapt training materials and job aids for IYCF according to the programme strategy.
ü Ensure that up-to-date activities are implemented with community members that will lead to the prevention of malnutrition and child stunting
ü Participate in the formation of Mother Care Groups
ü Conduct home visit and monitor food preparation and consumption of pregnant and lactating women (PLW) and malnourished children
ü Provide oversight to Mobile Clinic staff to ensure compliance with MoH policies and protocols in the delivery of health and nutrition services
ü Support in the planning and delivery of training to LLG Health and Nutrition project staff
Monitoring and Reporting
ü Follow up on the timely and accurate submission of monthly HMIS data from all Life Line Gedo supported mobile clinics.
ü Provide technical support and advice to Mobile Clinic staff in HMIS and ONA monthly reporting.
ü Work with IYCF and Community Mobilization officer in ensuring accurate reporting of IYCF and other behavior change counselling sessions at mobile clinic and Community level.
ü Undertake regular visits to the Mobile Clinic sites and join the mobile service reporting back with findings/recommendations
ü Undertake additional assessments, beneficiary interviews etc. as necessary, to keep up to date with community perceptions of the project, changing needs and opinions.
ü Support and partake in surveys, assessments as requested by Life Line Gedo and its Partner or external stakeholders once approved.
Coordination
ü Represent Life Line Gedo in District and regional level coordination meetings related to health and nutrition as required.
ü Closely work with District level health authorities
ü Participate Joint supportive supervision with DHMTs to the Mobile Clinics
ü Participate in internal Program meetings as required
Other responsibilities
ü Ensure and maintain information flow between the Health and Nutrition Programme coordinator.
ü Any other duties as required during the implementation of the program
ü Keep the Health and Nutrition Programme Coordinator informed of all Programme activities and challenges that may arise in the centers/areas of operation.
Skills and qualifications
Qualifications Essential
ü Degree related in health and Nutrition.
ü Must have at least Five years’ experience in the same position.
ü Ability and willingness to work in the community.
ü Basic knowledge of signs and symptoms of diseases and the appropriate treatment
ü Independently motivated and able to work without supervision.
ü Must possess problem solving abilities.
ü Ability to assist with community outreach activities.
ü Ability to work in a team including performing any other activities or duties in support of the services as delegated by their supervisor.
