Description
Save the Children, in partnership with the Ministry of Health of Galmudug State, is currently implementing the Community Health Social Accountability Project (CHASP) in Galmudug State, Somalia. The project aims to improve the quality and resilience of health systems and ensure gender-responsive RMNCAH services are accessible, acceptable, affordable, and equitable through the provision of the Essential Package of Health Services (EPHS). The project is funded by SIDA/SDC. The CEmONC Doctor will be based at Herale Hospital and will play a critical role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care services
.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Perform elective and emergency surgical obstetric and gynecological procedures.
· Conduct daily ward rounds and monitor patient progress and quality of care.
· Diagnose and manage common and emergency surgical, obstetric, gynecological cases
· Work closely with relevant stakeholders to strengthen health service delivery.
· Collaborate with the Ministry of Health, Save the Children technical teams, and local authorities.
· Respond to emergency cases, including after-hours clinical reviews when required.
· Provide on-the-job mentoring and clinical coaching for nurses and midwives.
· Conduct regular gynecological outpatient consultations.
· Lead by example and maintain the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity.
· Ensure adherence to clinical guidelines, protocols, and quality standards.
· Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
Skills and qualifications
Essential Requirements:
Qualifications: Medical Doctor (MD) from a recognized institution with demonstrated CEmONC surgical competencies and valid professional registration.
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years experience in a busy hospital setting providing emergency surgical and obstetric services.
Skills: Proven CEmONC surgical skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, report writing skills, problem-solving ability, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Attitudes and Personal Qualities:
· Respectful and collaborative team member.
· Caring attitude towards patients and colleagues.
· Able to coordinate operating theatre staff effectively.
· Able to work with minimal supervision.
· Willingness to work on-call and additional hours when required.
· Strong sense of accountability, honesty and professionalism.
