Job Title: Security Associate
Contract Type/Grade: Fixed Term ( G6)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, within delegated authority)
• Assists the National Security Officer/Field Security Officer in collecting, updating and communicating information regarding the
security situation in the area of responsibility (AOR).
• Liaises and coordinates with the host government security organizations and/or personnel, including national and local authorities,
military, and police officers, as well as non-governmental organizations in the AOR.
• Help to assess the security situation at the duty station and ensures adequate gathering and verification of security information
that may be required for a proper analysis of the situation.
• Maintains regular contacts with Security Focal Points of UN agencies and UNDSS.
• Provides support in the preparation and review of the UN Security Plan.
• Assists in maintaining the security risk management (SRM) document.
• Assist in reporting security incidents affecting UN/WFP staff, offices and assets, and drafting security reports, such as the Security
Incident Report and other Security Assessments.
• Provides support in organizing and conducting training courses on security awareness and preparedness and providing security
orientation to newly assigned staff members.
• Conducts security briefings, as required.
• Establishes and maintains warden system and keeps update of information related to UN/WFP offices and residences.
• Maintains liaison with commercial companies used for UN security at offices and residences in order to facilitate the effective and
efficient use of the guard force.
• Maintains routine and confidential correspondence files/documents.
• Maintains a database on contact details of host country security authorities.
Skills and qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
Education: Completion of secondary school education OR University degree (Diploma/Bachelor) in Risk Management, Criminology,
Military Science, OR a related field is highly preferred.
Experience: At least six (6) years of experience with a secondary school certificate OR University degree (Diploma/Bachelor’s) with a
minimum of two (2) or more years of experience in security, with proven capability in leading field teams, writing detailed security
briefs, and handling emergency scenarios.
Language Proficiency: Fluency (level C) in English and Somali language.
Knowledge & Skills:
• Prior experience with the UN system or an international NGO is desirable.
• Experience in computer applications (MS Office, internet).
• Experience in preparing Security Assessments/Reports.
• Experience in the military or police background is highly desirable.
• Valid and clean driving license, and experience in driving armored vehicles is an advantage
