Job Title: Communication and Community Engagement Officer

Reporting to: Project Coordinator

Position: Full Time

Work Station: Hargeisa, Somaliland

Organizational background:

The UBAH Inspire initiative organization is a women led initiative that was established April 2017, to respond the sports, arts, networking and women’s wellbeing needs, it is safe and secure environment for women with the sole purpose to help women and young girls to reach their full potential as healthier, more confident and well-connected individuals that have the tools to promote themselves and strengthen their social transformation through information sharing, networking and other inspirational programs.

UBAH has committed diverse and dynamic team that are well-versed with the local, regional and international issues of women with the amble expertise and knowledge to provide short and long-term solutions through initiatives and platforms.

Job Summary

The communication and Community engagement post holder is a proactive, creative and digital aware person that will lead the design, implementation and reporting of the communication activities where s/he gathers all communication information of the project and of the organization including short videos, photographs, case studies, as well as other communication education materials development and dissemination. Furthermore, the officer will closely work with and engage the project target group and Beneficiaries

Duties and Responsibilities

Communication

•      Lead the communication flows

 

•      Produce and distribute a timely, accurate and clear information through their respective channels

 

•      Design and/or adapt communication strategies that target the young people & women of reproductive age to create behavior change in the community

 

•      Collect success stories, case studies and other compelling cases with reliable sources including proper release form, as well as consent forms.

 

•      Liaise with photographer and other contracted media persons to ensure quality of final products are available

 

•      Contributes to the design and content of print publications, social media channels, original content, and other outlets to help the project to engage with relevant stakeholders.

 

•      Regularly compile briefs on progress of activities implemented under project, including contributing to web stories, photo essays or advocacy materials.

 

•      Facilitate media activities such as requests for quotes or interviews (ensuring spokespeople are adequately briefed) to program areas.

 

•      Identify opportunities within our response activities or the external environment for media activities with clear concept note.

 

•      Act as a point of contact for information provision of UBAH organization from media and external communication.

 

•      Identify and maximize opportunities to raise the visibility and profile of UBAH and the project

 

•      Other tasks and responsibilities needed in the completion of the primary role

Community Engagement

•       Develop and implement innovation campaigns with key messages to deliver creative and effective community engagement strategies to ensure optimum visibility

 

•      Provide technical and operational support to overall Community Engagement activities

 

•      Ensure community engagement strategies and implementation plans are evidence-based.

 

•      Contribute to develop and promote community engagement guidance documents and tools

 

•       Collaborate with partners to ensure collaborative implementation of community engagement strategies are integrated into technical and operational decision-making.

 

•      Collaborate with advocacy and policy colleagues to ensure core messaging is consistent with advocacy and policy strategies within a response and opportunities are explored to promote these strategies

 

•      work with communities and engage stakeholder through various channels, including meetings, networks, social media and other communication method

Additional job responsibilities

•      The duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the role holder may be required to carry out additional duties within reasonableness of their level of skills and experience.

Safeguarding

•      The post holder will have a direct contact with youth and young people because

 

UBAH’s thematic area that focuses young girls while the project also works with young girls therefore they are responsible for adhering to the organization policies that are set to protect young girls.

Skills and qualifications

•       Graduate of Social Sciences, Sociology, BA Communication or any relevant experience

 

•      At least 2-3 years’ experience in communication and community engagement

 

•      Excellent writing skills (sample works required) and interpersonal communication skills, both in English and Somali

 

•      Keen eye for good stories

 

•      Ability to take quality video and photographs

 

•      Strong organizational skills as well as a demonstrated ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously

 

•      Ability to work with and understand people of all ethnic backgrounds and understand their social and economic challenges

 

•      Excellent relationship building and coordination skills in order to effectively work with different

 

•      Ability to work independently and to make judgments within the scope of the job

 

•      Experience in working with the media

 

•      High integrity, pro-active, stable, robust character and a good team-work

 

•      Highly Motivated, results-oriented, and with well-developed problem- solving skills

 

•      Ability to cope with heavy workloads, and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
