Job description
Pastoralist Concern (PC) and its partners, has been granted the project which will guarantee access to child protection services sensitive to gender and age, to services in response to Sexual and Gender based Violence and to risk mitigation measures through the coverage of basic needs of the population displaced by the effects of drought and host communities. The child protection officer will oversee the overall day to day Child Protection issues and response interventions, including case management/psychosocial support, community mobilization for Child protection concerns, capacity building and coordination with other sectors and actors in Awber and Wuchale woredas of Somali region.
Job Description:
- Identify, register and verification of affected children
- Engaged on the Distribution of dignity kits for both displaced and host community’s young girls and vulnerable women
- Handle training of SGBV prevention and response, child protection and will facilitate information sessions on available services
- Coordinate with the community, authorities and humanitarian clusters
- Mapping out on existing child protection services and strengthening awareness amongst displaced groups and host communities on referral services
- Strengthening of community mechanisms and spaces for the protection of women, adolescents and girls
- Participate on the Strengthening of the Complaints Mechanism for Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA)
- Engaging actively on the Production of audiovisual materials on the humanitarian crisis aggravated by the drought
- Actively lead and facilitate training for gender club leaders in eradication of SGBV in schools
- Facilitate Provision of psychosocial support for selected 200 vulnerable children and adolescents
- And any other task as requested by the supervisor

Skills and qualifications
- MA degree or BA/BSc degree in developmental psychology, health, social work, sociology, gender, legal or other relevant fields from recognized institution
- For MA degree 1-2 years of experience in Child Protection, psychological support, social work, human rights, protection or related areas; and for BA/BSc degree 3 years of experience in the above-mentioned fields is required.
- Strong facilitation skills and experiences in providing trainings and presentation for diverse audience
- Good knowledge and understanding of the pastoral community context
- Positive attitude towards gender equality and strong commitment to support multi-sectoral Child protection response interventions.
- Previous experience or willingness/readiness to live and travel in a hardship environment
- Excellent verbal and written proficiency in English, Somali language is a must.
- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure and meeting deadlines in changing situations
- Experience of working with local partners including local authorities
