YouthLink Somalia is a local humanitarian NGO operation in South and Central Somalia. YouthLink works to enable the poor and vulnerable communities to improve livelihoods and build their resilience through long term development including health and nutrition live saving programs.

2.       Organizational Context and Scope

For increasing access to Health and Nutrition, Youth Link works in urban IDPs in Banadir region through the provision of Fixed and Mobile health and Nutrition services that include treatment of SAM, essential maternal and child health services in Daynile and Kahda districts of Banadir Region Somalia

Job Summary:

 

Reporting to the Health and Nutrition Officer, the Qualified nurse will ensure quality EPHs services are provided to beneficiaries at the assigned locations in Bardhere, Somalia district. The successful candidate will be expected to work full time on every week, spending the whole day at health facilities, reviewing cases brought forward by the CHWs. The role is mainly to ensure provision of essential primary health care services to beneficiaries,  

He/she will be responsible for day-to-day implementation of Integrated Community case management (ICCM) at the health facilities, facilitating referrals and follow up of complicated cases, working closely with the CHWs empowering them to fully provide Community level services within their respective IDPs as well as providing health education sessions to promote uptake of positive health seeking behaviors.

Main Duties &

Responsibilities:

 

ü  Take a lead role in providing clinical consultation, treatment, and referral and follow up of cases in line with STGs.

ü  Oversee medical consultation services at the site ensuring appropriate case diagnosis and management in an ethically sound manner

ü  Ensure high quality care is provided to beneficiaries in line with the standard protocols and informing the relevant patients about their presenting conditions

ü  Ensure appropriate patient management procedures; clerking of patients, Vital signs documentation and case management using the standard clinical practices, MoH/WHO  case management protocols for Somalia

ü  Oversee and review cases seen at the site, providing close follow up to beneficiaries treated, including facilitation on nutrition treatment ,case referrals and follow up  of  the malnourished  beneficiaries

ü  Ensure that protocols are strictly followed and implemented.

ü  Ensure the clinical health and nutrition consultation of Malnutrition cases by following strictly the protocols and provide individual health and nutrition counselling, refer the SAM cases with complications to SC.

ü  Analyze deeply the health and nutrition evolution of each beneficiary and provide the systematic treatment based on the IMAM guidelines.

ü  Participate to the forecasting and provision of the nutrition products, systematic treatment and other supplies for each site in a timely manner.

ü  Ensure proper, clear and accurate data recording on clinical registration book and nutrition cards.

ü  Participate to the demonstration of the preparation of the ration for each new admission.

ü  Ensure that all program materials are well maintained.

ü  Check the hygiene at each stage of the TSFP distribution.

ü  Responsible for documentation of observations, changes in a patient’s condition, medical treatment given; reports daily activities, admissions, defaulters, referrals and deaths

ü  Updating the relevant reporting tools including registers, facility HMIS tools , the CSR ,weekly updates and drug consumption reports

ü  Participate actively in monitoring and reporting, ensuring the documentation and transfer of information as necessary

ü  Maintain   and promote a culture of hygiene and sanitation awareness and practices at the facilities, ensuring appropriate waste management& infection prevention practices.

ü  Facilitate referrals for continued health and nutrition care between the various programs.

ü  Appropriately dispense to and educate clients and the CHWs on the correct use of medications

ü  Oversee health education sessions at the facilities, support the CHWs and mentor mothers in health promotion including increased uptake of EPI services, hygiene and IYCF promotion

ü   Perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisor

Skills and qualifications

Degree in Nursing, Public Health, or other related studies

Ready to work in difficult environmental conditions.

Minimum of two years of relevant experience in a health program set up.

Experience working with a non-profit humanitarian organization preferred.

Flexibility at work.

A mature person of high professional discipline and moral integrity.

Knowledge of local Somali language, and English language

Knowledge of Ms Office such Word, Excel, PPT are desirable and added value.

Previous experience within a humanitarian aid organization, in particular working in primary health care programs and conducting nursing.

Strong counselling skills, Vaccine Administration, Nutrition Admission

Good organizational skills, and interpersonal skill and communication.

Competent to work under stress as the situation may dictate. Ability to work with displaced communities with diverse cultural and ethnic background.
