Job description
Job Title: Medical Doctor
Duty station: Radar clinic, Mogadishu
Immediate supervisor: Facility in-charge
Direct reports: CDM community volunteers
Background
The Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) is an independent, non-political humanitarian organization that was founded in April 1963 and was established with presidential decree No. 187 in 1965. It was then recognized by the ICRC in 1969 and in the same year became a member of the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent societies.
The Somali Red Crescent Society is currently looking for a qualified candidate to fill the vacant position of Medical Doctor.
Overall Job Purpose
The role of medical doctor is to provide outpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries with cardio-metabolic diseases (CMD) seeking care and support in SRCS Primary Health care centers according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, national Non-communicable disease guidelines and in line with international treatment protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiaries health conditions, ensure improved adherence to treatment and self-care. The medical doctor will provide on-job training and support to community-based volunteers activities including raising community awareness on cardio-metabolic disease prevention and management, conduct screening risk factors of high-risk groups and promote self-monitoring and self-care among CMDs clients.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
· Apply medical knowledge and skills to prevention, diagnose, and management of CMDs. Carry out outpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting national NCDs protocols.
· Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood and empowering patients and the caregivers to self-monitoring and self-care.
· Follow up the CMDs clients, through Monthly visits, consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following National NCD guidelines and protocols, and referring to further care.
· Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards
· Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team to optimize the quality of care
· Knows and ensures all Somali Treatment guidelines (STGs) including NCD protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are always followed and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected
· Collaborate and support the other clinical staff in delivering quality care in PHC facilities.
· Manage, train, support and supervise community-based volunteers’ activities under his/her responsibility.
· Plan and implement community outreach activities related to CMD care, prevention and management.
· Educate patients on risk factor modification and long-term disease management, focusing on reducing systemic inflammation and managing weight.
· Participate in the collection, analysis and reporting of CMD data and community volunteers’ activities.
· Conduct Monthly peer support groups (PSGs) meetings with CMD clients, draft their meeting minutes and prepapre plan of actions to improve their treatment adherences and self-care.
· Support the implementation of mental health and PSS activities.
Operations Management
• Management of supplies and equipment for CMDs project.
• Manage community volunteers schedule and activities including their performance.
• Ensure volunteers abide with SRCS code of conduct and medical ethics
Coordination and collaboration
• Represent SRCS in relevant conferences, seminars, workshops and meetings in coordination with the BHO and the BC.
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the SRSC BHO.
• Facilitate the visits of local authorities, movement partners and other organizations in coordination with the BHO.
Skills and qualifications
Educational Qualifications, experience & Professional Training
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in medicine. Master in internal medicine or public health are added value.
· Registered and licensed by Somali national health professional council (NHPC)
· Experience: Two years’ experience minimum as a Medical Doctor or in clinical work
Languages:
· Requirement: Demonstrate proficiency in Somali and English languages
