Job Title: ACCOUNTANT
Job Location: Mogadishu but travels to SPL Regional Offices
Grade: Grade 3
Contract: One year with a possible extension
Work Permit: this a local position, only Somalis can apply who don’t need work permit
Reports to: Operation Manager
Introduction:
SPL is a non-profit and non-governmental local organization, established to contribute towards bringing lasting and sustainable peace, advocate for human rights of disadvantage groups, capacity building, social harmony and good governance. Somali Peace Line was founded in 1995, following the second International Congress of Somali Studies in Paris, France that looked at the “Culture of Peace in Somalia. SPL is a key member organization of the Somali civil society organizations and is continually acknowledged and appreciated by its partners for its tireless commitment and collaboration in the cause of social change.
Job Purpose:
Somali Peace Line is seeking a skilled and dynamic Accountant to join our team in the main office who will be responsible for managing the financial activities of the organization, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and providing financial reports to management and donors. The position holder will report to the Operation manager and work closely with program and administrative staff to ensure that financial management systems are efficient, effective, and transparent.
Duties and Responsibilities:
key responsibilities will include:
- Develop and manage the annual budget in consultation with the management and program team.
- Monitor budget performance and provide regular reports to the Operation Manager.
- Develop and maintain financial planning tools and templates to support program planning and budgeting.
- Manage day-to-day financial operations of the organization.
- Manage cash flow and ensure timely payments to suppliers and employees
- Support grant proposals and manage grant budgets
- Maintain records and receipts for all daily transactions
- Ensure financial records are kept up- to –date with the latest transactions and changes
- Monitor all bank deposits and payments
- Perform periodic financial analysis to detect and resolve any problems
- Prepare balance sheets and other required documents
- Receive and review monthly office accounts and partner reports from the field offices, ensuring balance reconcile to the system and ensure financial monitoring is up to date and correctly documented.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Make sure compliance with donor and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Develop and maintain financial reporting tools and templates to support program and administrative reporting.
- Record financial transactions in the accounting system and ensure accuracy of the data
- Prepare financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Monitor budget and expenses, and provide regular updates to management
- Ensure that financial management systems are efficient, effective, and transparent.
- Make sure compliance with all financial policies and procedures, including those related to procurement, asset management, and accounting.
- Manage cash flow and ensure that funds are available for program and administrative requirements.
- Review and check that month end bank reconciliations and supporting documents are correct and in line with donor requirements , and that accounts are posted in line with month end timetable.
- Check reports for financial accuracy and proper coding of expenses in line with relevant systems and procedures
- Prepare for and coordinate external audits and ensure compliance with audit recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with all donor and regulatory requirements, including filing of financial reports and tax returns.
- Ensure that all financial records are accurately maintained and readily available for review.
- Ensure compliance with local and international accounting standards and regulations
- Work closely with auditors and support the annual audit process
Skills and qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. A professional accounting qualification is an added advantage.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience in financial management for NGOs, including experience in budget development, financial reporting, and compliance.
- Knowledge of donor regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience in managing financial systems and processes, including accounting software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Terms and Conditions
The position is full-time. This is a full-time position with a probation period of three months. The contract will be for one year with the possibility of extension based on the performance of the incumbent and availability of funding.
