Background Information
RAAGSAN is a female-led local social enterprise providing strategic and analytical consulting services across the Horn of Africa. We strive to bridge the gap between communities and policymakers by leveraging our network of young and middle-aged professionals supported by experienced senior consultants with post-conflict environment expertise. We offer an in-depth knowledge of the Somali community level. Our expertise spans multiple sectors: livelihood, economic assessments, social protection, cash transfers, disaster management, gender, water sector development, transitional justice, supply chain, and humanitarian responses.
RAAGSAN works in fragile and conflict-affected states to develop and strengthen policies and systems that enhance public service delivery. Our operations have served a wide range of international and national clients, including the Government, GEEL Program, SSF through GIST, UNDP through the government, IGAD, IOM, SOS, WFP, GIZ, NRC, RVI, UNICEF through the government, Save the Children, Local NGOs, and other international Companies. RAAGSAN has primary offices in Nairobi, Mogadishu and Hargeisa and a project office in Kismayo with a network of local field researchers, researcher associates and analysts across Eastern and Horn of Africa.
RAAGSAN has conducted research in more than 60 districts and has a pool of 200+ highly qualified local field researchers that could be rapidly deployed as a team of professionals who are trained to conduct research and data collection in the field, typically at the community or local level. The RAAGSAN team was part of several evaluations conducted for donors across the country.

As we continue to support our diverse range of clients—including governments, UN agencies, NGOs, and private organizations—there is a growing need to enhance the visual representation of our work, streamline systems, and strengthen internal capabilities.
Our systems team plays a critical role in maintaining operational efficiency and presenting complex data in ways that are clear, engaging, and actionable. From designing dashboards and managing online tools to producing professional reports and creative content for outreach, the team ensures that our deliverables are not only
functional but also visually compelling.
To support these efforts, Raagsan is seeking a Graphic Design Intern who will work closely with the Systems Officer to bridge the gap between technical functionality and creative expression. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful projects, enhance Raagsan’s brand presence, and gain hands-on experience in graphic design, data visualization, and systems management.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The intern will work under the guidance of the Systems Officer and in collaboration with the Communications Specialist to:
1. Data Tools and Management:
§ Design, implement, and maintain online tools for data collection, ensuring reliability and ease of use.
§ Assist in developing automated data cleaning processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
§ Analyze and prepare datasets for visualization and reporting.
2. Data Visualization and Analysis:
• Develop complex dashboards, charts, and graphs using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Excel to present insights effectively.
• Create visually engaging reports tailored for internal and external audiences, ensuring they are both professional and accessible.
• Collaborate with the M&E team to design data-driven visual narratives for reports and presentations.
3. Graphic Design and Content Creation:
• Design creative layouts for reports, proposals, and other technical documents, ensuring alignment with Raagsan’s branding guidelines.
• Produce marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, social media graphics, and infographics for diverse platforms.
• Develop visually compelling campaign materials for outreach and advocacy efforts.
4. Website and System Maintenance:
• Update and maintain the Raagsan website, ensuring all content is current, visually appealing, and functional.
• Work with IT teams to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to internal systems.
• Optimize user experiences on digital platforms to ensure seamless interaction.
5. Collaboration and Capacity Building:
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize design and visualization needs.
• Contribute to the development of design and data visualization standards within the organization.
• Support knowledge-sharing efforts by creating design templates and training materials for internal use.
6. General IT Support:
• Assist in user account management for email systems and internal tools.
• Provide support for technical troubleshooting, including hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
• Work closely with the Systems Officer to maintain a functional IT infrastructure across teams
Skills and qualifications
• Diploma or degree in graphic design, information technology, data analytics, or a related field.
• Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Canva).
• Familiarity with web platforms (e.g., WordPress).
• Working knowledge of data tools (e.g., Excel, SPSS).
• Intermediate skills in visualization platforms (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Creativity and a keen eye for detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or additional hours when necessary.
• May require occasional travel to remote locations with limited infrastructure.
