This position is located within the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS). The Senior Logistics Officer serves as the Chief of the Mission Support Centre (MSC), based in Mogadishu, and reports to the Chief of Operations and Resource Management. The MSC is responsible for planning, coordinating, and liaising with all mandated clients, including the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), the United Nations Transitional Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS), the Somali Security Forces (SSF), and other supported entities, to deliver timely and effective logistics support

.Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the Senior Logistics Officer will be responsible for the following duties: • Provide overall managerial and supervisory oversight of all logistics support in fulfilment of the UNSOS mandate. • Develop, coordinate, and monitor comprehensive logistics support plans, including forecasting, supply scheduling, prioritization of requirements, and the resolution of urgent operational needs. • Monitor and coordinate multifunctional logistics requirements between UN Headquarters, AUSSOM, UNTMIS, UNSOS, and, where applicable, other field missions. • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures governing UNSOS support to its clients. • Serve as the principal liaison between UNSOS and mandated clients, including AUSSOM, UNTMIS, and SSF, on logistics matters, including troop redeployments and rotations, and assist in the coordination and deconfliction of bilateral/donor support to AUSSOM and SSF. • Ensure effective planning and coordination of logistics support preparations for client missions, including civilian and military peacekeeping presence in regional administrative offices. • Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs. • Advise senior management on logistics management, structures and staffing requirements to ensure alignment with operational needs and strategic objectives. • Lead assessment missions in response to mandate changes or anticipated deployment adjustments. • Manage and supervise an integrated civilian-military mission support organization. • Manage and coordinate a multifunctional logistics operation within the mission area. • Oversee the management of Contingent-Owned Equipment related programmes. • Oversee the management of all regional administrative functions. • Chair or participate in administrative and financial bodies of the field mission, as required. • Undertake responsibilities as a certifying officer when designated. • Perform other related duties as required.

Skills and qualifications

An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in business administration, public administration, management, engineering, law or related fields is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in the specified fields of studies with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.Job - Specific QualificationNot available.

Work Experience

A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in land or air transport, logistics operations in military, commercial or international organization, or related areas is required. Experience working in a United Nations Common System field operation (inclusive of peacekeeping missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes) or similar international organizations or non-governmental organization in a conflict or post-conflict setting is desirable. Experience in military or police logistics is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this job opening, English is required.
