BBbank is looking to fill the position of Sharia Compliance manager.

Position: Manager, Sharia Compliance.

Location: Mogadishu

Type of appointment: Full time

Job Description

• Responsible for ensuring all the transactions, activities, services and investments within Islamic Banking adhere to Shari’ah principles and guidelines.
• Implement the relevant Islamic Banking initiatives in line with the Islamic Banking strategy.
• Responsible to ensure Shariah Compliance in day-to-day business activities and documentation of BBbank.
• Perform research on Shari’ah aspects for each product before it’s presentation to the Shari’ah Supervisory Board for decision making.
• Reviewing financing files and ensuring that transactions are sharia compliant.
• Coordinate and resolve Sharia observations with relevant department managers.
• Carry out periodical audits on all financing instruments done by the division.
• Work in hand with IT Department to ensure execution of products to avoid any potential Sharia non-compliant sensitivity elements.
• Educate the Bank employees on basic principles in order to promote their jurisprudence awareness in relation to the Bank transactions together with a general knowledge of Islamic Finance transactions.
• Answer questions and clarifications sought by clients and employees concerning the shari’ah correctness of some procedures or transactions.
• Identify and assess the customers’ requirements for Islamic finance products and provide guidance in selection of the right product.
• Adhere to Bank Policies, Procedures, guidelines, relevant regulations within the course of duty.

Education.

• A University Degree in Islamic Shariah (Jurisprudence)/ Islamic Studies/Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Banking or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Professional Qualification in Islamic Shariah (Jurisprudence)/ Islamic Studies is an added advantage
• Professional Qualification in Credit Management is an added advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Shariah review/ Shariah compliance/regulatory compliance as well as Islamic banking related functions.
• Good understanding in Shariah principles / regulatory requirements in Islamic Banking products and services.

Other Personal skills

• Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written is a must.
• Ability to identify and define compliance related problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations for corrective action.
• Ability to remain composed and make appropriate decisions under stressful conditions.
• Strong Management, leadership and decision-making skills
• Ability to build strong and effective teams.
• Ability to delegate and motivate teams
