Main purpose of the role

The Assistant Cook is responsible for providing support to the Senior Cook in the preparation and service of meals. This includes prepping ingredients, cooking items, plating meals, and cleaning up the kitchen throughout the day. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized and able to multitask.

Key responsibilities

Under the Senior cook supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

• Participate in menu planning.
• Assist Senior Cook with food preparation and cooking of menu items.
• Perform Cook duties during the absence of the Snr cook.
• Perform cleaning duties such as washing dishes, wiping counters and cleaning kitchen areas.
• Ensure food safety standards are met and followed.
• Receive and store food items according to safety and sanitation guidelines.
• Monitor food temperatures and quality throughout the cooking process.
• Plate meals according to recipes and presentation standards
• Ensure the kitchen is properly stocked with necessary items.
• To undertake such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum Intermediate School
• Minimum 4 years of working experience in cooking in a four-star hotel is mandatory; experience working in UN/INGO/Embassies compounds is desired but not a requirement.
• Basic knowledge of English is mandatory.
• Good knowledge of cooking all main dishes and sweets is a requirement.
• Experience with international cooking is an added advantage but not a requirement.
