Position Summary
Pharo Secondary School in Sheikh is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Chemistry and
Mathematics Support Teacher (Pearson Edexcel Curriculum) to support the delivery of the Pearson
Edexcel Curriculum. Working closely with the Lead Teachers and the Vice Principal (Academics), the
successful candidate will help deliver high-quality teaching and learning in Chemistry and Mathematics,


support practical laboratory sessions, provide academic support to students, and contribute
to the wider life of the school.
This role is ideal for an enthusiastic educator with strong subject knowledge, effective classroom
management skills, and a learner-centred approach. The successful candidate will also participate in cocurricular activities and contribute to the boarding school community.

Contract: Fixed Term (One Year)
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
• Support the planning and delivery of engaging Chemistry and Mathematics lessons aligned with
the Pearson Edexcel Curriculum.
• Assist Lead Teachers with lesson preparation, classroom activities, tutorials, and assessments.
• Support practical Chemistry laboratory sessions, ensuring safe laboratory practices are
followed.
• Provide additional academic support to individual students and small groups to improve
learning outcomes.
• Prepare and deliver lessons independently when required.
• Set, mark, and provide constructive feedback on classwork, homework, and assessments.
• Prepare online learning materials and deliver virtual lessons when required.
Student Progress
• Monitor students' academic progress and provide timely feedback.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment results, and student performance.
• Contribute to student progress reports and parent communication as required.
• Support intervention programmes for students requiring additional academic assistance.
Classroom Environment
• Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
• Promote high standards of student behaviour, respect, and academic integrity.
• Ensure classrooms and laboratories are well organised, safe, and conducive to learning.


• Use engaging and learner-centred teaching approaches that encourage curiosity
and critical thinking.
School and Boarding Life
• Participate actively in school meetings, professional development, and school events.
• Support extracurricular activities, clubs, competitions, and educational trips.
• Contribute to boarding school supervision and student welfare as assigned.
• Participate in community engagement activities led by the school.
• Undertake other duties assigned by the Vice Principal or Principal.

Skills and qualifications

Qualification Requirements
• A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Mathematics, Education, or a closely related field.
• A recognised teaching qualification. A Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) or equivalent
is an advantage.
• A master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
• At least five (5) years' experience teaching Chemistry and Mathematics at secondary school level,
including A Level or an internationally recognised curriculum such as Pearson Edexcel,
Cambridge, or IB.
• Experience supporting practical Chemistry laboratory instruction.
• Strong classroom management and student support skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English. Somali language skills are highly desirable.
• Good digital literacy, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, email, and online learning
platforms.
