Job description
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Nurse Supervisor is expected to plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated (ALIMA and MoH teams), according to ALIMA values, national and ALIMA policies, protocols, and universal health standards, to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action.
MAIN ACTIVITY
- Ensuring high-quality nursing care, proper functioning of the ALIMA-supported hospital and services under his/her supervision, and the continuity of general medical care provided for patients according to National and ALIMA Nursing Guidelines, standards, and protocols.
- Defining nursing objectives, developing/amending nursing guidelines and protocols, and collaborating with the MoH supervisors to achieve training objectives and empowerment of supervisors. Ensuring the respect of patient interest and autonomy and the proper implementation and adherence to National and ALIMA protocols, standards, and procedures.
- Carry out the functions and tasks associated with nursing i.e. perform as a nurse whenever required or needed, to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
- Supporting MoH supervisors to organize and coordinate the activities of the teams (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance, and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
- Regularly auditing and ensuring the maintenance of and adherence to infection control standards within the supported health facilities. Keeping a safe environment, intervening and alerting the PMR and MoH responsible for facilities in case of security incidents and hygiene concerns in the hospital.
- Supporting the MoH supervisors in supervising the facilities, departments, services, and team under his/her responsibility (IPD, SC, OPD, MHNTs, Health center, Health post …) and following up unit activities with the supervisors. Participating at rounds, attending meetings, and facilitating collaborations.
- Planning and supervising, with the support of the HR department, the associated HR processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, motivation, development, and internal communication) of the nursing staff in the project and other staff under his/her responsibility, to ensure having the appropriate team in terms of size, capabilities, and skills.
- Ensuring efficient management of the pharmacy (ensuring the weekly orders are done to avoid exceptional orders, managing expired items and regular inventories)
- In coordination with the project biomedical/logistic service supervising the appropriate use of medical devices and anticipating and communicating future needs.
- Coordinating with logistics and the MoH facility responsible for ensuring that the infrastructure is maintained in good condition, ensuring appropriate staff and support equipment.
- Carry out and/or coordinate administrative (exit paper, transfer paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome, and support decision making
- Ensuring proper and timely data collection from people assigned to and assisting in the analysis of monthly data for medical and nutrition activities under his/her responsibility. Prepares the monthly nursing and hygiene SitReps.
- Reviewing all nursing incident reports and intervening when necessary.
- Implementation of prevention measures against abuse of power, gender-based and sexual violence:
- Participates in training and awareness sessions
- Implements abuse prevention standards
- Ensures that team members complete training and awareness sessions and implement abuse prevention standards
- Helps create and maintain a nurturing and protective environment.
Skills and qualifications
- EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
- BSc/Diploma in Nursing with IPD and Health services supervision experience from a recognized university/college.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- 3 years of similar experience for BSc holders preferably in a humanitarian context; in clinical activity, Extensive Knowledge, experience in the primary health care system, and experience in pediatric and inpatient nutrition is an asset;
- Relevant experience in doing OPD Consultation, Inpatient care, Mobile clinics, Nutrition (OTP and SC), managing Emergency cases and facilitating referrals;
- Proven training facilitation experience and skills;
- Relevant experience in performing clinical procedures (assisted delivery and others.

- Ability to prescribe medications for the patient in a more efficient and effective way
- Ability to perform rapid diagnostic procedures and others
- Ability to work independently and quickly take up a position;

Languages:
- English Speaking, reading, and writing, are mandatory.
- Knowledge of a local language (Somali and Amharic) is an asset
