Job description

Background
Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and direct supervision of the Project Associate (DRU-DTM Field Operations) and Senior Project Associate (DRU-Operations); the successful candidate will perform the following functions. They will be accountable for the implementation of data collection for the Data and Research Unit in the region. The candidate will deploy any necessary data collection methodology and liaise with the respective Project Associate to regularly update on data collection or any other related issues. In addition, the candidate will liaise with zonal and woreda government counterparts to ensure smooth collaboration with them during data collection.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
- Identify reliable sources of information/key informants to collect relevant displacement and return data.
- Conduct data collection on the Zone, Woreda and Site and Village levels, according to the operation plan provided by immediate supervisor (Project Associates);
- Closely liaise with the Project Associate (DRU-DTM Field Operations) to address critical issues that may arise during the data collection.
- Assess the situation in collective centers, camp-like settings, host community and villages through direct observation, FGDs, KIIs, measurement and calculations and triangulate the information to facilitate its analysis.
- Ensure the quality of the information collected by providing inputs to verify and correct the questionnaire/form at the end of the interview/data collection.
- Liaise with various humanitarian, governmental partners and displaced and returning communities in the field.
- Report daily on the activities conducted and the realities/issues encountered to the Project Associate (DRU-DTM Field Operations) and make relevant recommendations.
- Perform other duties as they might be assigned.
Skills and qualifications
Educational Qualification
- Minimum BA Degree in Information Management System, Statistics, Geography, social science, Development study, Humanities and other related field of study
Required Experience
- At least two/four years of relevant work experience for Degree and Diploma holder respectively.
- Experience in conducting surveys and assessments in natural disaster and/or conflict situations
- Experience with International Organizations, INGO is an advantage
- Knowledge of Camp Coordination and Camp Management settings appreciated
- Must be a national of Ethiopia.
Languages
- Fluency in English and local language (Somali).
- Working knowledge of other local language is an advantage.
