Job description
DetailsMission and objectives
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the global focal point for sexual and reproductive health (SRH), working towards a world where every pregnancy is desired, every childbirth is safe, and the potential of every young person is realized. UNFPA aims to advance gender equality, empower women, girls, and young people, and collaborate with partners worldwide to deliver comprehensive SRH and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) services. The organization's overarching goal is to eliminate unmet family planning needs, prevent avoidable maternal deaths, combat GBV, child marriage, and female genital mutilation by 2030. During crises, UNFPA responds proactively, integrating SRH, rights, and GBV responses into emergency interventions by working closely with governments, NGOs, UN agencies, and other partners. Assignment Context: Somalia is experiencing a complex and protracted humanitarian crisis characterized by conflict, drought, displacement, food insecurity, and limited resources. Approximately 8.25 million people in Somalia require urgent humanitarian assistance. The ongoing floods have further exacerbated the situation, affecting 1.7 million people, displacing 695,000 individuals, and resulting in a death toll of 55, including 14 children. UNFPA is actively responding to the flood situation by providing essential SRH and GBV services in the South West, Jubaland, and Hirshabelle States. Given the escalating humanitarian needs in Somalia, UNFPA requires a dedicated candidate to enhance the visibility of its humanitarian activities, advocate for the protection and prioritization of women and girls, mobilize resources, and showcase results and achievements. The selected candidate will lay the foundation for increased reporting on UNFPA's flood response activities in 2023 and beyond.
