Job description

Mission and objectives

The United Nations Security Council in Resolution 2245 adopted on 09 November 2015 estab-lished the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS). This replaced the United Na-tions Support Office for AMISOM (UNSOA), established in 2009. https://unsos.unmissions.org/unsos-mandate. United Nations Security Council Resolution 2245 decided that UNSOS will be responsible for support to AMISOM (ATMIS), UNSOM, the Somali National Army (SNA) and the Somali Police Force (SPF) on joint operations with AMISOM (ATMIS).

Context

The position is located in the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) within the Centralized Warehouse Section. The incumbent will be based in Baidoa/Beletweyne/Jowhar/Kismayo, and reports to Unit Chief.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of Centralized Warehouse Section (CWS) Representative, the national UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Inventory Management (IM) and Warehousing Modules (WM) applications to record and analyze stock and asset movement; • Monitoring the physical inventory of stocked items on a regular basis to ensure accuracy of records, and location of property; • Conducting periodic physical inventories of expendable and non-expendable items and updating the inventory control database; • Maintaining accurate and auditable records for property control and accountability in the mission in conformance with the mission’s standard operating procedures; • Verifying the receipt of goods or services against the associated purchase order or contract and providing results to the relevant certifying officer; • Monitoring the consumption, inventory control, stock-checking and write-off to ensure security, availability and accountability of materials and assets; • Processing equipment requests approved by the Section Chief and controlling the issuance of equipment, supplies and spare parts; • Evaluating stock levels and advising the Asset Manager and/or Technical units of requirements and surplus quantities of assets and related equipment; • Verifying the accuracy of the inventory records through cross-reference of records, e.g. Purchase Orders, Packing Lists, R&I Reports, Physical Verification etc; • Preparing the necessary documents for the issuing and receiving of equipment from staff members and ensuring it is entered in the database; • Assisting staff members during check-out by verifying items issued to them and ensuring the correct procedures are followed for the handover/returning of equipment and if misplaced or lost that Security reports are produced; • Any other duties as required from the Asset Manager or Stores Supervisor.

Skills and qualifications

Required experience

3 years of experience in of progressively professional work experience in supply chain/logistics, emphasizing warehouse operations. - Previous experience in inventory management, stock control, and warehouse management is desirable.

Required education level

Bachelor degree or equivalent in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business administration, or a related field. A high school diploma in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the bachelor’s degree.

General: Mogadishu is the HQ of UN operations in Somalia. The UN Volunteer will be subject to the overall direction and guidance of the UN Designated Official (DO) for security. The volunteer will be incorporated into all applicable security protocols and will be required to adhere to the guidelines, security plans and other directives issued by the DO. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
