WRRS is seeking a qualified, motivated, and energetic Health and Nutrition Project Officer Intern to support the implementation of health and nutrition interventions in Lower Juba Region. This internship is intended for a recent graduate or early-career professional who is passionate about public health, community nutrition, and humanitarian programming and is looking to gain practical experience in project planning, field implementation, coordination, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
Position Summary
The Health and Nutrition Project Officer Intern will support the design, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of health and nutrition project activities in Lower Juba Region. Under the supervision of the Head of Programs Unit, the intern will contribute to community-based health and nutrition interventions, support field teams, assist in project documentation, and help strengthen coordination with health facilities, communities, and local authorities.
This role offers a valuable learning opportunity in humanitarian programme management and provides practical exposure to integrated health and nutrition programming in fragile and underserved settings.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The intern will support the following responsibilities:
- Assist in the implementation of health and nutrition project activities in target locations across Lower Juba Region.
- Support planning and coordination of field activities including outreach, screening, awareness sessions, follow-ups, and referrals.
- Participate in community mobilization and sensitization on key health and nutrition issues, including maternal, infant and young child nutrition, hygiene promotion, immunization, antenatal care, and disease prevention.
- Support beneficiary registration, data collection, data entry, and record management using approved project tools and formats.
- Assist in nutrition screening exercises for children under five and pregnant and lactating women under technical supervision.
- Support referral follow-up and defaulter tracing for malnourished children and at-risk beneficiaries.
- Help compile daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports for submission to the Head of Programs Unit.
- Assist in preparing project updates, success stories, case studies, and field documentation.
- Participate in coordination meetings with field teams, community leaders, health workers, and relevant local stakeholders.
- Support routine monitoring visits to project sites and help track implementation progress against work plans and targets.
- Assist in ensuring that project implementation is aligned with WRRS standards, donor requirements, and national health and nutrition guidelines.
- Support accountability, safeguarding, inclusion, and protection mainstreaming in project implementation.
- Carry out any other duties assigned by the Head of Programs Unit in support of project delivery.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Nursing, Community Health, Project Management, or a related field.
- Recent graduates are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Prior internship, volunteer, or field experience in health, nutrition, or humanitarian programming is an added advantage.
- Basic understanding of health and nutrition issues affecting vulnerable communities in Somalia.
- Strong interest in humanitarian and development work.
- Good report writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Basic computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to work in multicultural and challenging field environments.
- Fluency in Somali is required; working knowledge of English is an added advantage.
