Job description

Translators ( 3 positions) – English, Arabic and Swahili

Red Sea University (RSU) is one of the leading private universities in Somalia. It offers a diverse range of undergraduate courses of international standards in various disciplines. These include economics, statistics, business, accountancy, computer science, technology, education, law, public administration, and allied health sciences.

 We constantly strive to create a friendly learning environment with plenty of facilities including technologically equipped classrooms, high-tech computer laboratories with internet facilities and well-stocked library. The culture and experience of RSU have played an important role in the professional and personal development of our students.

Consulting and training center of the University intends to recruits professional interpreter/Translator positions ( contingent on funds availability). The required Translators are:

  • English to Somali and vice versa
  • Arabic to Somali/English – vice versa
  • Swahili to Somali/English – vice versa.

Main duties of the translators are:

  • Translates from English into Somali and occasionally from Somali to English and edits in Somali a wide range of RSU documents and other texts, within agreed deadlines, ensuring high quality and appropriate terminology;
  • Supports other departments within the organization on linguistic matters;
  • Uses and suggests updates to terminology tools;
  • Supports communication related training/coaching for staff of field structures and other departments;
  • Organizes briefings, dissemination sessions, workshops, seminars and public relations events;
  • Elaborates written reports and contributes to the internal reporting system

 

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Science or an equivalent qualification in a related field of study;
  • At least 3 years’ experience in providing translation services, English to Somali / Arabic to Somali/English, and Swahili to Somali/English;
  • Proof possessions (certificates, diplomas) of language proficiency is a must.
  • Multiple translation assignments in the field of law or humanitarian assistance and protection are an asset;
  • Strong facilitation and presentation;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with digital communication tools;
  • Good knowledge of the political, social and media environment in Somalia.
