ALIGHT has its Area office –Jubaland in Kismayo and field offices in Dhobley, Afmadow and Representatives in Elwak in Gedo region, Banadir, Somaliland Hargeisa and Lascanood. Alight implements an extensive drought response and lifesaving programs focusing on Protetion, Health, WASH, Education, Shelter, and Livelihoods. Alight also implements resilience and recovery programs, and aim to engage and expand its arm to the private sector, youth environment and resilience building.

The nutrition supervisor who will be based in Lower Juba will have the responsibility of assisting the health team in planning, organization, implementation coordination, reporting and monitoring of all the agreed health and nutrition activities of Alight in Lower Juba.

She/he will work closely with Health and nutrition officer/program manager, the UN and all other partners operating in Lower Juba and the local communities. She/he will also be responsible to roll out all health and nutrition related activities.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY /PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and review all health and nutrition activities in collaboration with program manager and other agencies/partners both inside and outside the health cluster forums.
  • To supervise and support all field staff in all health and nutrition technical areas in other areas in Lower Juba to ensure effective delegation and work allocation.
  • Write internal health and nutrition technical reports (including but not limited to monthly and quarterly facility reports, surveillance reports, outbreak reports, CP reports through MODA and ONA systems, biweekly screening reports, and DHIS2 reports) and send to the program manager in a timely manner. At the same time to prepare monthly plan and reports of all activities in relation to Health and nutrition.
  • Ensure availability of health and nutrition supplies for emergencies especially acute watery diarrhea/cholera emergency kits including maintenance at all times of an emergency buffer stock and to monitor for proper usage and stocks maintenance of such supplies donated to the health facilities.
  • Collaborate technically with local community/Authority, UN and other organizations involved in health and nutrition projects in Lower Juba and regularly attend all health and nutrition coordination meetings with all partners.
  • Identify health and nutrition training needs and organize appropriate training for all technical staff and to assist in preparation of training materials in conjunction with the health and nutrition officer/Program Manager and other partners.
  • Will be responsible for the roll out of EWARS training and other trainings in identified sites in collaboration with WHO field office.
  • Technically support monitoring and supervision of all health and nutrition activities in Lower Juba
  • Represent Alight in Lower Juba in matters related to health and nutrition to clusters and other coordination mechanisms, national, regional, and local health authorities, NGO/UN networks and other parties as necessary ensuring that all partners are kept positively informed
  • Ensure that project activities are implemented in line with the project aims, objectives, and work plans.
  • Plan and implement project health activities including the day-to-day activities and longer-term strategy. This may include changes to the project direction or priorities in collaboration with the health and nutrition Officer/ Manager/Coordinator/Area Manager.
  • Ensure that project expenditures are within the agreed and approved project budget and conduct expenditure against budget monitoring monthly.
  • Ensure accurate collection and analysis of data. Compile epidemiological reports for inclusion in project situation reports and any other pertinent reports, including dissemination of the same.
  • Regularly monitor progress of project implementation and conduct assessments of the health and nutrition needs of the community and prioritize project activities based on findings.
  • Together with the Field staff, Project officer responsible for encouraging community participation in health activities to ensure the long-term ownership and effectiveness of the programme.
  • Ensure that the medical supply stocks are sufficient and that drugs are stored and used correctly
  • Work with district health facilities, community representatives and persons responsible for training health workers at different levels to ensure close links between health facilities and communities.

HORN OF AFRICA

  • Monitor and evaluate health activities in project areas in collaboration with the Project Officer/health and nutrition Manager/Coordinator, local health authorities and other project staff and adapt interventions as necessary.
  • Prepare project monthly, quarterly, mid-term and final reports for submission to Project officer/Managers on a timely manner.
  • Assist the Project officer, Program Managers in designing new programmes including undertaking assessments, proposal and log-frame writing, and budget preparation.
  • Work closely with WASH and Protection team for integration of health and nutrition activities.
  • Represent Alight in regional and/or national health coordination meetings and other forums as requested by your supervisor.
  • Undertake any other duties assigned by his/her supervisor.

 

Skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing/public health and any related course in professional competencies with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in managing and coordinating health projects in health services and epidemic control.
  • On hand experience in disease surveillance and epidemic control programs including extensive experience in managing chronic illnesses and cholera treatment centers in emergency and development situations.
  • On hand experience in basic epidemiological analysis, interpretation, and documentation
  • A competent trainer with good experience of developing and implementing training plans
  • Excellent report writing and fluency in English language
  • A Somali national who is committed, confident, community oriented with enthusiasm, initiative, drive, leadership qualities, and good advocacy skills to motivate and influence collective decision-making process
  • Should have a consultative and participatory approach to work with the adaptability of working with different clans, communities, social groups, and partner organizations/institutions
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills
  • Should have good documentation and dissemination / presentation skills
  • Should be able to live, work and travel in an insecure environment, always following strict security guidelines.
  • Proven capacity to work in a quickly moving, unstable situation and work against targeted outputs with tight time frames and deadlines
  • Proficient in use of computers, able to use - Microsoft Word, Excel and Epi-Info and relevant data processing software packages. Should be conversant with use of internet and email system
