Position Title: Henna/Beauty Salon Instructor.
Location: Vocational Skills Center, Galdogob and Bursaalah.
Duration of Contract: 6 months.
Reporting to: Center Manager.
Contract Type: Full-time/Part-time (as applicable)
SDC BACKGROUND
Salaam Development Center (SDC) is an independent, nonprofit, and nongovernment organization that provides project management services and research & development solutions, in the thematic focus area of livelihoods and climate changes, social development, protection, and good governance based in Garowe-Puntland- Somalia.
The Climate Resilience Programme for Food Systems project- JRP, for Resilience and Food Security Enhancement falls. Under the food system sector. The project will aim to improve household and community resilience, enhance food security, and strengthen government and community systems to deliver effective livelihood services in the Galdogob district Mudug region of Somalia.
In Galdogob and Bursalah, beneficiaries will learn the most marketable vocational skills within the Bursalah and Galdogob districts based on findings from a market assessment conducted by SDC. Ultimately, the project aims to enable beneficiaries to utilize these skills to earn a living by starting their businesses and micro-enterprises after training. This approach aims to foster self-reliance by applying acquired skills into practice.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Salaam Developed Center (SDC) seeks two well-qualified, highly motivated individuals to fill the full-time, six-month position of Henna/Beauty Salon Instructor. Reporting to the Campus Dean, the Henna/Beauty Salon Instructor provides classroom and lab instruction to adult and high school students to prepare them to become medium and small business owners.
The primary objective of the Henna and Beauty Salon Instructor is to provide comprehensive training in henna application and beauty salon skills to students, preparing them for professional opportunities and self-employment in the beauty industry.
Key Responsibility and Tasks of the Trainer.
1. Curriculum Development:
- Design and update the curriculum and course materials for the henna and beauty salon program based on current industry standards.
- Ensure the curriculum includes practical and theoretical knowledge essential for the beauty industry.
2. Teaching and Instruction:
- Conduct regular classes in henna design, makeup application, hairdressing, and other beauty treatments.
- Provide hands-on training in a simulated salon environment.
- Assess student progress through practical tests and written exams.
3. Student Engagement:
- Mentor students on career paths in the beauty industry.
- Organize workshops and guest lectures by industry experts.
4. Equipment and Inventory Management:
- Manage the inventory of supplies and equipment needed for salon training.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained and functional.
5. Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in the training facility.
- Conduct safety training for students regarding chemicals and equipment used in beauty treatments.
- Organize highly interactive training sessions to equip students with key knowledge, and skills on Henna and Beautification including hair styling skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills and qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRED COMPETENCY:
- Professional certification or diploma in Cosmetology or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience as a practitioner in the beauty industry, with a focus on henna application.
- Experience in teaching or training, preferably in a vocational setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluent in local languages and proficient in English.

TIME FRAME
The Henna/Beauty Salon Sessions shall be conducted 6 months from May to October 2024, with the possibility contract extension subject to satisfactory performance. The Henna/Beauty Salon Instructor will report to the program manager constantly and work with the organization’s dynamic teams.
