We’re looking for a dynamic, creative and flexible Market Researcher to expand and improve our Growth department. You’ll work closely with our Director of Growth to realize our goal to impact the lives of 60 million kids across Africa by 2025. In your role specifically, you will support the Director of Growth by gathering data that will help understand market trends, opportunities and overall potential to enter and scale our impact across various countries in Africa.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Market Research and Analysis:
- Working with the Director of Growth, collect data in prospective markets, including audience preferences, producers of similar content and overall key marketplace data that will inform entry and expansion into the identified countries
- Lead and manage research to inform market entry and expansion decisions including:
- Setting clear goals
- Understanding the market, the landscape and its nuances
- Choosing mode of entry/expansion
- Forecasting
- Identifying key risks and opportunities
- Determining feasibility
- Relationship mapping
- Design, develop and execute qualitative and quantitative research and analysis
- Tracking market and industry trends to support leadership decision making
- Ability to analyze and interpret data to identify patterns and solutions
- Collect data from multiple sources and use it to forecast trends
- Compare current trends to future expectations to support strategic decision making
- Collecting data on audiences, competitors and market place and consolidating information into actionable items, reports and presentations for use by various stakeholders
- Understand Ubongo’s key objectives and design surveys to discover prospective audience’ preferences
- For each identified market, perform valid and reliable market research including but not limited to PESTEL and SWOT analysis, and/or any other key market entry and expansion indicators
- Leverage available online and offline data to feed into our market research activities, and further, catalogue the findings to be used for decision making
- Provide competitive analysis on various companies’ market offerings, identify market trends, business models, and methods of operation
- Remain fully informed on market trends, other parties researches and use these learnings to implement best practices in our processes
Support the Marketing and Development team to craft marketing plans and resource mobilization:
a. Provide accurate and timely data to the marketing team that will inform Ubongo’s marketing strategies across various countries in Africa
b. Inform the development team on shifting trends in the market that will inform our resource development and fundraising efforts
Support in Product Development:
a. Share important market research data and insights that will support development of our products and solutions that respond to our audience needs.
Skills and qualifications
ESSENTIAL:
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Marketing or related field
- 2 to 3 years experience in marketing, market research or related field
- Posses search engines, web analytics, and business research tools acumen
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Working knowledge with CRM programs
- Adequate knowledge of data collection methods (polls, focus groups, surveys etc)
- Strong analytical and critical thinking
- Deep knowledge of data warehousing, and mining
- Use of statistical software to manage and organize information
- Data visualization
PREFERRED:
- Excellent knowledge of statistical packages (SPSS, SAS or similar), and working with databases
- Have a commitment to Ubongo’s Mission and Principles and a desire to create fun, localized, educational content
- Familiarity with the media and broadcast industry across Africa
- Ability to work in a Multicultural setting
- Good at dealing with ambiguity and problem solving
- Able to work with people
