Background Summary


CARE Somalia/Somaliland is implementing a programme funded by the Danish International Development Agency(DANIDA) to strengthen livelihood resilience among displaced climate refugees and ultra-marginalized women in Sanaag Region. The project promotes climate-smart agriculture and entrepreneurship. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community-based agricultural project support within a humanitarian and development context.

Position Summary

The Intern will provide support to the project team in the implementation of climate-smart agriculture activities, beneficiary engagement, and field monitoring. The position is based in Erigavo, Sanaag region.

 

Internship Roles & Responsibilities
Under the supervision of
a Project Officer, the Intern will:

  • Assist the project team in community mobilization and beneficiary registration activities.
  • Support climate-smart agriculture interventions, including drip irrigation, solar-powered water systems, and greenhouse farming.
  • Support planning, site selection, installation and supervision of climate-smart agriculture technologies in line with best practices. 
  • Support capacity strengthening of farmer groups or co-operatives through the Farmer Field School (FFS) approach and hands-on coaching.
  • Help maintain good relationships with community members and local partners by providing logistical and administrative support.
  • Participate in field monitoring visits to to track project performance.
  • Assist in the preparation of field visit reports, activity reports, and documentation of lessons learned.
  • Help ensure the transparent implementation of activities by supporting feedback collection from communities.
  • Assist in the collection, proper filing and organization of project data and documents.
  • Perform any other related tasks as requested by the Project Officer or Project Manager

Skills and qualifications

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Recent University graduates(within last 18 months), possessing a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agriculture Engineering  or related Agricultural fields.
  • At least 1 years’ experience implementing climate-smart agriculture interventions within smallholder farming systems will be added advantage.
  • Some prior experience or exposure to drip irrigation, solar-powered water systems, and greenhouse farming will be added advantage
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote rural field sites as required.
  • Good verbal and written skills in Somali and English
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Commitment to adhere to CARE’s policies on child protection, safeguarding, and code of conduct.
