SRCS is seeking a qualified candidate for the following position:
Job Title: EPI/Nutrition Nurse.
Grade : Band 3
Organizational unit: Health Department.
Reporting to: Health Officer
Duty Station: Habasha wacle, Badhan, Sanag Region
Posting Date: 21st June 2023.
Posting Expiry Date: 4th July 2023.
Contract Type : Fixed Term (One year of possible renewal)
Purpose: SRCS is currently implementing the integrated health care program in six regions of Somaliland supported by International federation of Red Cross/Red Crescent (IFRC), ICRC and other partners. The aims to develop promote and strengthen community-based health care programmes focusing on preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative health services to health and protection promotion and care.
Over all job purpose
The EPI/Nutrition Nurse Conducts an assessment of child health needs for children under 5 and provides quality and comprehensive nutritaional screening all elegable under five children and follow-up for malnuroushied children and trcing defaulter cases. Ensure delivery of high-quality nursing interventions covering the provision of promoting optimum nutrition for preventing malnutrition and working under the guidance of the head nurse and responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the EPI/nutrition activities in line with SRCS health strategy and IMAM guidelines and primary healthcare nursing standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Expanded Program for Immunization (EPI)
- Deliver an immunization program to ensure all children under 5 years are appropriately immunized.
- Responsible for the growth monitoring of children under 5 years.
- Conduct mother and child awareness regards to public health and nutrition education messages.
- Assesses immunization status of children under 5 years and pregnant women
- Responsible for screening and providing vaccines to under 5 years children and malnourished children and pregnant women.
- Receiving, proper handling, and storage of vaccines.
- Monitor the amount of vaccine on hand and order if necessary.
- Ensures quality of cold chain by checking the temperatures of cooler and refrigerator at least twice a day (morning and afternoon) and maintains logs.
- Scheduling dates and times to immunize and completing and maintaining monthly and yearly patient appointment calendars.
- Registers and fills all vaccination books/cards
- Handle and dispose of biohazard sharp containers.
- Ensure supplies are ordered as needed, on a timely basis.
Nutrution ( growth monitoring )
- Assess and classify common health conditions to identify child health needs for children under 5 years
- Provide nutritional Screening of under five years children using theropometric mearurement including MUAC.
- Adherence to medical and nutritional treatment protocols and procedures for children and infants in OTP.
- Provides treatment to severe/moderate malnourished child
- Follows up with defaulters and manages referrals from OTP to Target Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP)
- Manages growth monitoring for under 5 years children and pregnant women
- Provides health education through Infant young child feeding ( IYCF) and promote complementory feeding of child and healthy eating habits of children under 5 years per mother
- Assesses micronutrient deficiencies under 5 years children and mothers (Breastfeeding)
- Compile accurate data on all OTP cases of under 5 children and prepare monthly reports.
Operations Management
- Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the growth monitoring and EPI in line with health strategic priorities.
- Identify capacity-building needs of the auxiliary and volunteer nursing team and ensure they are properly trained and well supported to implement program activities
- Participate in emergency preparedness, rapid assessments, and emergency responses
External Relationships
- Develop and enhance relationships with local authorities, and community leaders to maximize support for maternal and child health
- Represent SRCS in relevant conferences, seminars, workshops, and meetings
- Perform other related duties as assigned by your supervisor and your line management
Skills and qualifications
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Nursing with experience in maternal and child health
Required Job Experience and Competencies
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in implementing an integrated health program consisting of maternal and child health, immunization, nutrition, HIV/Aids as well as health and hygiene promotion within a humanitarian context
- Demonstrating consistency in upholding integrity and ethics
- Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
- Team leader with demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills
- Effective communications and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate openness to change & ability to manage complexities

- Proficiency in computer office packages word, excel, power point

- SRCS offers a contract of one year, renewable depending on both funding and performance.
