Job description

The General Food Distribution (GFD) Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation of general food distributions and the reception of food commodities in selected woreds in Somali region in partnership with World Food Programe (WFP).  He/she will guide, train, direct and support project staff receiving commodity from the WFP and implementing distributions to all communities in their assigned woredas. The GFD Coordinator is ultimately responsible for scheduling distributions with the communities, including gathering registration lists, coordinating food receptions with WFP Logistics, ensuring timely, orderly distribution and warehouse related reporting and for ensuring timely and accurate beneficiary data collection.  He/she will be responsible for regular project reporting to the WFP GFD Program Manager. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate / oversee the reception of food commodities in at least three warehouses in their woreda of responsibility
  • Coordinate with distribution supervisors ahead of distributions to ensure staff are ready for receiving food or distributing food
  • Assist Program Manager in overseeing monthly schedule including distribution, beneficiary and warehouse reporting and administrative / HR related deadlines
  • Oversee and ensure the commodity tracking mechanisms are in place and correctly being implemented by the staff in their woreda of responsibility
  • Timely coordination with SP’s Operation focal points to ensure vehicle requests are submitted at least two days ahead of planned distributions
  • Timely coordination with SP Government Liaison to ensure government stakeholders are informed of intervention areas and intervention timelines
  • Coordinate with Distribution Officers to ensure registration lists have been gathered from communities ahead of planned distributions
  • Coordinate with WFP Logistics department to arrange for the reception of food commodity trucks at the appropriate warehouse / food distribution point
  • Ensure Distribution Officer is tracking volunteer and salaried staff working hours/days on a daily basis
  • Submit daily and monthly quantitative reports to Program Manager
  • Act as official SP representative to stakeholders for all matters concerning Food Assistance in districts of operation, including WFP, Food Security Cluster and government stakeholders as needed
  • Ensure sufficient distribution materials are available and/or procured in a timely fashion
  • Ensure all project activities are conducted in accordance with the Field Level Agreement (FLA) and proposal between Samaritan’s Purse and WFP
  • With a generous and serving spirit perform all other tasks and responsibilities assigned for the benefit of Samaritan’s Purse International Relief.
  • Any other duties assigned

Skills and qualifications

  • B.A from four-year college or university in Business Administration, Social Services or Economics,
  • 3 to 5 years related experience in Project Management, Project Coordination, Food Assistance Programming; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in Humanitarian Aid preferred 

LANGUAGE

  • Amharic and English (spoken and written required)
  • Somali languages strongly desired

  • Ability to coordinate activities with other agencies, build and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Ability to understand complex security situation and advise program design accordingly. 

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be exposed to loud noises around the maintenance and construction workshops.
