BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
VACANCY SUMMARY
- Vacancy No 01/2023: Business Development Manager- NEXUS Consortium Somalia
NEXUS Consortium Somalia (https://nexusom.org/) is an association for civil society leadership to advance a new community-driven model of partnership promoting peaceful, thriving, and empowered communities in Somalia and Somaliland. This unique platform, led by eight pioneering Somali NGOs, aspires to lead a locally driven agenda for change, finding common cause and syncing interventions with government authorities, private sector, and the international community.
- Job Purpose:The role will lead on program development of the Consortium. It will oversee all aspects of Business Development including enhancing strategic relationships with the donors and partners by tracking and analyzing funding opportunities and preparing and developing strong and sound proposals. The role also involves develop and implement a business development and fundraising strategy. In addition, the role is mandated to grow the consortium’s income and funding base through creative and strategic activities such as doing extensive research to improve insights into new opportunities.
- Reports to: Executive Director.
- Duty Station: Somalia/Somaliland with external travels.
5. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a business development and fundraising strategy and targeted donor engagement plans (new and existing donors) tracking/monitoring progress against targets.
- Undertake donor mapping, develop, and maintain a functional donor database, explore, establish potential donor network, and maintain their contacts.
- Conduct research on funding trends and new and emerging donors and advise accordingly.
- Engage with government and external partners proactively to build rapport, gathers business ideas, and come up with funding opportunities.
- Participate in external, round table and high-level meetings, conferences and events for fundraising.
- Provide information on business development processes, donor intelligence, requirements, and compliance considerations.
- Lead, coordinate, manage and supervise the Project Management & Implementation Team.
- Based on existing program and regional strategies, develop high quality multi- year proposals with directions from the Executive Director.
- Lead and develop materials such as Nexus statements, policy briefs, Nexus strategic plan, stakeholder presentations and other publications as requested with the support of the Communication and advocacy officer.
- Play a key role in the day-to-day activities of the Nexus secretariat, including project management, monitoring, evaluation and documentation.
- Prepare progress reports, annual reports, project completion reports and other reports that may be required by stakeholders including
- Effective representation of Nexus in donor meetings and other external meetings.
- Conduct regular donor, stakeholder and funding situation analysis of the country’s socio-economic situation, priorities’, needs and gaps.
- Ensure sign-off of donor proposals, reports and contracts are done as per organizational and donor policies.
- Undertake other duties assigned by the Executive Director.
Skills and qualifications
- At least a bachelor’s degree in Program management, international development social sciences, development studies or related field.
- Five years demonstrated experience in coordinating and facilitating the development of major proposals to institutional donors, multilateral agencies, corporate donors, and/or foundations (USAID, FCDO, ECHO, etc).
- Demonstrated experience in leading assessments of funding landscapes and developing programme funding strategies to meet strategic goals.
- Background in donor and relationship management, networking, and fundraising.
- Strong background in international development, humanitarian and/or peacebuilding.
- Experience in strategic decision making and planning, and the ability to analyze data and information with a focus on competitiveness.
- Experience in coordination of multi-stakeholder consortia and/or complex projects.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with focus on communicating with impact, influencing, negotiating, and coaching.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field will be an added advantage.
- Good knowledge of the Somali context.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Proven ability to write persuasive, competitive and compliant proposals to donors.
- Background and knowledge about localization of aid and triple nexus – Humanitarian, Development and Peace (HDP).
- Commitment to Nexus Consortium’s values and ethics.
