Obstetrics & Gynecology (Obs & GYN) Doctor
Duty Station: Somalia (with travel to all regions as required)
Contract Type: Full-time

2. Purpose of the Position
The Obs & GYN Doctor will provide high-quality obstetric and gynecological care, perform advanced laparoscopic and open surgical procedures, support fertility treatment programs, and participate in reproductive health campaigns across all regions of Somalia as required.
3. Key Duties and Responsibilities
A. Clinical Responsibilities
1. Obstetric Care
• Antenatal care (ANC) services and risk assessment
• High-risk pregnancy management
• Intrapartum care and supervision of labor
• Cesarean section (elective and emergency)
• Instrumental vaginal delivery (vacuum/forceps)
• Management of obstetric emergencies (eclampsia, PPH, shoulder dystocia, uterine
rupture)
• Postnatal care and follow-up
2. Gynecological Care
• Outpatient gynecology consultations
• Diagnosis and management of menstrual disorders
• Management of PCOS and endocrine-related infertility
• Management of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
• Screening and management of cervical and breast conditions
• Colposcopy and cervical biopsy
• Pap smear screening
B. Fertility & Reproductive Medicine
• Infertility assessment
• Ovulation induction protocols
• Monitoring of follicular development
• Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
• Hormonal evaluation and interpretation
• Ultrasound follicular tracking
• Counseling couples on assisted reproductive techniques
C. Surgical Responsibilities
The candidate must be capable of performing both open and minimally invasive
laparoscopic procedures including but not limited to:
1. Laparoscopic Surgeries
• Diagnostic laparoscopy
• Laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy
• Laparoscopic myomectomy
• Laparoscopic hysterectomy (total and subtotal)
• Laparoscopic salpingectomy
• Laparoscopic tubal ligation
• Laparoscopic management of ectopic pregnancy
• Laparoscopic treatment of endometriosis
• Laparoscopic adhesiolysis
• Laparoscopic ovarian drilling (PCOS)
• Laparoscopic fertility-enhancing procedures
2. Open Surgical Procedures
• Abdominal hysterectomy
• Myomectomy
• Salpingo-oophorectomy
• Emergency laparotomy
• Repair of uterine rupture
• Ovarian tumor removal
D. Ultrasound & Diagnostic Services
• Obstetric ultrasound (dating, anomaly scan, growth scan)
• Transvaginal ultrasound
• Follicular monitoring
• Pelvic ultrasound interpretation
E. Outreach & Campaign Responsibilities
• Participate in reproductive health campaigns across all regions of Somalia
• Travel as required for medical camps and fertility awareness programs
• Provide training sessions for local healthcare staff
• Conduct community awareness seminars
• Represent Public health initiatives
F. Administrative & Reporting
• Maintain accurate patient records
• Ensure compliance with clinical protocols
• Participate in clinical audits
• Prepare monthly clinical activity reports
• Contribute to protocol development

4. Qualifications and Requirements
Education
• Doctor of Medicine (MD or equivalent)
• Specialization in Obstetrics & Gynecology
• Valid medical license
Experience
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a specialist
• Proven experience in laparoscopic gynecological surgery
• Experience in fertility medicine is highly desirable
Skills & Competencies
• Strong surgical skills
• Excellent diagnostic ability
• Ability to work in remote and challenging settings
• Strong communication and counseling skills
• Willingness to travel extensively within Somalia
• Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
5. Working Conditions
• Based at Global Fertility Center with regional travel
• Flexible working hours depending on surgical schedules
• Participation in emergency on-call rotation
