Satellite Technician

Overview of position

CTG is looking for qualified staff as mentioned below in the TOR.

Role objectives

• Support & monitoring of satellite systems, electronics & antennas up to 3.8 m deployed by the UN in the field & HQ.

• Supervise groundwork, install, configure, commission, maintain & support equipment & systems providing satellite services.

• Troubleshoot connectivity & infrastructure problems.

• Monitor & analyse the performance of satellite services.

• Provide information on availability of support packs, relevant firmware updates.

• Install, configure & commission satellite ground terminals, portable satellite equipment & install power systems in accordance with UN standards, requirements of manufactures & local regulations.

• Liaise with clients & counterparts within & outside the UN.

Project reporting

This role reports to the line manager.

Qualification

Certificate in a relevant discipline (essential).
Sector experience

Minimum of 5 year/s of demonstrable relevant Information Technology experience (essential).
Geographical experience

Minimum of 5 year/s of experience in Africa (desirable).
Languages

Fluent in English (essential).

Key competencies

• Minimal 5 year experience in installing, configuring & managing satellite solutions.

• Experience in managing & monitoring fixed, transportable & portable VSAT & satellite solutions.

• Experience with lightning protection.

• Experience with RF electronics & electronic test & measure equipment such as spectrum analyzers & oscilloscopes.

• Knowledge of the ITIL framework.

• Experience in customer services & the ability to provide a professional interface with the user community.

• Good interpersonal skills.

• Attention to detail.

• Proven ability to work under pressure.

• Ability to work outside normal working hours if required.

• Industry recognized certifications are an asset.

Team management

This role has no team management responsibility
