SOS Children’s Villages invites applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates who fulfill the eligibility criterion for the below position.
Position : Community Care monitors (4 positions)
Location : Jowhar (2) and Balcad (2)
Duration : 3 years
Responsible to : Community Care Project Officer
Job Summary:
The Community Care Project Monitors will support the Project Officer in implementing activities related to community care project including timely supervision and mentor the community leaders in all community care work at field level. The Community Care Monitors will report directly to the Community Care Project Officer.
Key Area of responsibility:
- Support and supervise all community dialogue sessions at field level, and ensure compliance with the discussion guidelines and tools, project tools and work plan;
- Ensure the timely and effective implementation of all protocols and guidelines of the community discussion the field.
- Supervise and mentor the community discussions leaders and supervise the groups sessions and the development of communication action plan aiming at changing harmful social norms and at improving the community awareness on sexual violence;
- Regular visits to the project sites to monitor discussions and monitoring their progress.
- To ensure active collaboration, information sharing and joint meetings between the programme, local authorities, and other stakeholders to identify and strengthen support for project activities;
- Support public declaration events and the implementation of the community action plan which were developed by each community discussion groups.
- Support regular documentation and reporting of all community dialogue sessions and community engagement outcomes.
- Act as research data collection monitors during the baseline and end line survey and ensure proper implementation of the research and security protocols and of the research tool.
- Any other task identified by the Program Manager.
Skills and qualifications
- University Diploma, preferably in Social Sciences, Human Rights, Psychology, Public/Community Health, International Law or related field from a recognized institution of higher learning
- Minimum 2 years work experience in GBV, child protection or social work with a demonstrated focus on GBV program design and implementation
- Good understanding and experience of working in Middle Shabele especially Balcad and Jowhar is a definite advantage.
- Verbal fluency in English and Somali language.
- Knowledge of community based child/GBV protection approaches, preferably including experience in participatory approaches and child participation methodologies.
- Basic familiarity with MS application packages (Word, Excel and database software) and willingness to develop further.
- Good cooperation skills, ability to work well independently and in a team;
- Experience working with International NGO’s or local authorities in complex emergencies
- Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
- Strong listening and empathy skills, as well as commitment to supporting women and children survivors/ at risk;
- Positive attitude towards community work with emphasis on the ability to learn from communities and support innovative approaches to problem solving.
