Background
IJAABO Consultancy invites qualified sectoral technical experts, trainers, facilitators, researchers, and consultants in Somalia to join its Associate Expert Roster for upcoming humanitarian, development, research, assessment, capacity-building, monitoring, evaluation, and third-party monitoring assignments across Somalia.
This call is open to experienced professionals from diverse technical backgrounds who are interested in supporting future consultancy assignments with UN agencies, international and national NGOs, donors, development partners, local organisations, community-based organisations, and private sector actors.

Profile of Experts Sought
IJAABO is expanding its Somalia Expert Roster and welcomes applications from qualified experts, trainers, and consultants with expertise across a broad range of humanitarian, development, research, and capacity-building sectors. Relevant areas of expertise include, but are not limited to, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), health, nutrition, protection, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), child protection, education, food security and livelihoods, climate resilience, disaster risk reduction (DRR), technical and vocational education and training (TVET), economic empowerment, social protection, gender equality, disability inclusion, localisation, peacebuilding, conflict sensitivity, and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL).
IJAABO also welcomes applications from professionals with specialised experience in research design and implementation, qualitative and quantitative data collection, training facilitation, curriculum development, institutional capacity building, community engagement, market assessments, youth employment programming, safeguarding, accountability to affected populations (AAP), and humanitarian and development programme quality improvement.
Main Areas of Work
Selected experts may be contacted for future consultancy assignments involving technical training and facilitation, capacity-building activities, sectoral assessments, programme evaluations, field research, development of assessment and monitoring tools, data collection supervision, contextual analysis, technical reviews, report writing, quality assurance, and technical advisory support.
Depending on specific assignment requirements, experts may contribute to activities such as Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), household surveys, community consultations, stakeholder workshops, technical reviews, training delivery, data analysis, and the preparation of practical recommendations tailored to the Somalia context.
Somalia Context and Relevant Experience
Candidates with strong knowledge and practical experience of Somalia’s humanitarian and development context are particularly encouraged to apply. IJAABO is especially interested in experts with experience related to displacement and durable solutions, protection risks and vulnerabilities, access constraints and operational challenges, food security and livelihoods, health and nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), education, climate change and disaster risks, community resilience, gender equality, disability inclusion, and local civil society strengthening.
Experience working with communities in diverse operational contexts, including urban, rural, remote, border, conflict-affected, displacement-affected, and climate-affected areas, is highly valued.
IJAABO particularly welcomes experts with demonstrated experience engaging respectfully and inclusively with women, youth, children, persons with disabilities, minority communities, internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, host communities, and other vulnerable or marginalised groups.
Skills and qualifications
Key Skills and Qualifications
Applicants should demonstrate:
· A master’s degree in a relevant field is required.
· Relevant professional qualifications and experience in one or more technical areas.
· Strong understanding of the Somalia context, including local institutions, community structures, civil society actors, access dynamics, and humanitarian/development priorities.
· Practical experience in training, facilitation, technical advisory services, assessments, monitoring and evaluation, field research, community engagement, or programme implementation.
· Strong communication, analytical, facilitation, and report-writing skills.
Applicants with experience working with UN agencies, INGOs, NGOs, local organisations, donor-funded programmes, academic institutions, consulting firms, or community-based initiatives are encouraged to apply.
Knowledge and practical application of the following areas are highly desirable:

Experience using digital data collection and analysis tools such as KoboToolbox, ODK, SurveyCTO, Excel, SPSS, Power BI, NVivo, or similar platforms is considered an asset, depending on the assignment.
Language Skills
- Fluency in Somali is required for most field-based and community-level assignments.
- Good working knowledge of English is strongly preferred, particularly for assignments involving technical reports, donor documentation, training materials, data analysis, and communication with international teams.
- Knowledge of local or minority languages is an advantage, particularly for assignments involving specific communities, border areas, remote locations, or community-level fieldwork.
