Job description

Mission and objectives

The World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The WHO is a member of the United Nations Development Group. Working with 194 Member States, across six regions, and from more than 150 offices, WHO staff are united in a shared commitment to achieve better health for everyone, everywhere. Together they strive to combat diseases – communicable diseases like influenza and HIV, and noncommunicable diseases like cancer and heart disease. They help mothers and children survive and thrive so they can look forward to a healthy old age. We ensure the safety of the air people breathe.

Context

WHO Somalia is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Online Volunteer to support its Knowledge Management (KM) efforts. The volunteer will work closely with the External Relations and Communications team to help organize and maintain internal information assets, streamline access to key documents, and enhance the visual archive.

Task description

Organize and standardize folder structures within the shared drive (e.g., SharePoint, OneDrive, etc.) Label and categorize internal documents by type, theme, and date (e.g., donor reports, visibility materials, concept notes) Assist in curating and labeling a photo library, ensuring proper metadata is applied (location, event, date, captions) Support the creation of a Knowledge Management index or guide to improve team access to relevant materials Identify outdated or duplicate files for potential archiving or deletion, in coordination with the WHO team Provide suggestions for improving the overall KM system (folder structure, naming conventions, etc.)

Skills and qualifications

Required experience

Experience with content review and management

- Familiarity with knowledge management systems and digital tools like Microsoft Office and Excel

- Excellent organizational and attention to detail

- Strong communication and collaboration skills - Strong English language reading and writing skills

- Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality results within set timelines

Languages

English, Level: Fluent, Required
