    Job Description

    Terms of Reference (ToR) - Market and Monitoring Officers.      

    Position: Market and Monitoring Officers

    Location: Dollow, Luuq, Afgoye and Buleburte.

    Duration: 10 months with possible extension.

    Introduction.

    In the recent years Somalia has experienced recurrent drought because of poor rains in the subsequent years that has threatened the livelihoods of the pastoralist and the farmers in the country. In response to these critical circumstances, the Somalia Resilience Program (SomRep) has initiated the Riverine & Pastoral Food System Strengthening (RFSS) project, funded by the European Union. This multifaceted project combines both infrastructural and adaptive measures, aimed at mitigating risk, enhancing food production, and bolstering market access for agricultural communities of five districts in Somalia (Luuq, Dolow, Bulo Burte, Jowhar and Afgoye). The M-Dalag Platform Developed by Shaqodoon Organization aims to connect market hundreds of thousands of farmers. This initiative aligns our commitment to explore and implement ag-tech solutions in Somalia.

    Shaqodoon Organization is currently seeking dedicated Market and Monitoring Officers to play a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the M-Dalag. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the accurate and timely updating of market prices on the M-Dalag platform, as well as monitoring and reporting on crop health and disease outbreaks. These officers are integral to facilitating access to vital agricultural information for farmers and enhancing their productivity and resilience.

    We are looking to recruit 38 candidates from the following target locations:

    Key Responsibilities.

           Possess expertise or experience in agricultural practices or crop disease management, enabling effective monitoring and reporting.

           Aim to register farmers across designated project locations, contributing to the overall target of farmers.

           Regularly monitor the health of crops for farmers, utilizing a combination of physical visits and an e-surveillance platform.

           Prioritize the immediate reporting of disease outbreaks or pest infestations to relevant authorities for timely intervention.

           Consistently update the M-Dalag platform with daily market prices and relevant information sourced from five key markets identified within the project area.

           Ensure accuracy and timeliness in updating market data to facilitate informed decision-making by farmers.

           Recruit tractor owners and verified agricultural input suppliers into the M-Dalag system in your location.

           Ensure thorough verification and validation of recruited tractor owners and input suppliers to maintain quality and reliability.

           Facilitate tractor bookings through the M-Dalag system within the first six months of project implementation.

           Provide support and guidance to farmers in utilizing the booking system effectively to enhance their agricultural operations.

    Skills and Qualifications

    Qualifications and Experience.

           A degree or equivalent qualification in agriculture, agronomy, or related fields is preferred.

           Demonstrated experience in agricultural practices, crop disease management, or market monitoring.

           Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting.

           Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

           Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.

    Reporting.

    Market and Monitoring Officers will report directly to the Team Leader and collaborate closely with other project team members.

    Duration and Remuneration.

    These positions are a contract based. The remuneration package will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
