Context

UNFPA Somalia is supporting the undertaking of a socio-demographic survey to improve demographic data availability for policy and planning. To enhance real-time monitoring, spatial analysis, and communication of data insights, UNFPA Somalia is engaging online volunteers with technical expertise in key data areas.

Task description

Work with the UNFPA and the Somali National Bureau of Statistics (SNBS) GIS Specialist to support spatial modeling and map production, and capacity building. Acquiring, cleaning, and managing spatial data (vector, raster, satellite images). Spatial Analysis: Conducting spatial modeling, clustering, hotspot analysis, and interpolation to identify patterns. Mapping & Visualization: Creating static maps, thematic maps, and interactive web maps using GIS software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).

Skills and qualifications

Assignment requirementsRequired experience

Proficiency in GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS, Google Earth Engine). Strong knowledge of spatial analysis techniques, statistics, and cartographic design. Experience in remote sensing, data management, and data visualization Required Education Level: Bachelor’s degree or ongoing studies in a relevant field. Required Skills and Experience: Relevant experience aligned with the role’s responsibilities. Experience in online collaboration and development context is an asset.

English, Level: Fluent, Required Somali, Level: Working knowledge, Desirable
