Job Summary
The Computer Hardware Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair
of computer hardware and peripheral devices. This role requires hands-on technical skills in
diagnosing and resolving hardware issues, assembling and upgrading computer systems, and
ensuring optimal hardware performance. The Computer Hardware Technician will work closely
with the IT department to support and maintain the organization’s hardware infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
1. Hardware Installation and Configuration
- Install, configure, and upgrade desktop and laptop computers, servers, and peripheral
devices (printers, scanners, etc.).
- Assemble and build custom computer systems according to specifications.
- Install and configure hardware components, including CPUs, memory, hard drives, and
graphic cards.
2. Troubleshooting and Repair
- Diagnose and troubleshoot hardware-related issues, including component failures,
connectivity problems, and performance bottlenecks.
- Repair or replace defective hardware components to restore functionality.
- Perform routine maintenance on computer systems to prevent hardware failures.
3. Preventive Maintenance
- Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of computer hardware to ensure
optimal performance.
- Clean and service hardware components, including internal and external parts.
- Monitor system health and report potential hardware issues to the IT team.
4. Inventory Management
- Maintain an accurate inventory of all computer hardware and peripheral devices.
- Track hardware usage, manage stock levels, and order replacement parts as needed.
- Document hardware configurations, serial numbers, and warranty information.
5. User Support
- Provide technical support to end-users, assisting with hardware-related issues and
inquiries.
- Guide users in the proper care and use of computer hardware and peripherals.
- Assist with hardware setup for new employees and training sessions
6. Hardware Upgrades and Lifecycle Management
- Recommend and implement hardware upgrades to improve system performance and
extend the lifespan of computer systems.
- Assist in planning and executing hardware refresh cycles and technology rollouts.
- Ensure proper disposal or recycling of obsolete or damaged hardware.
7. Collaboration and Documentation
- Work closely with the IT department to support ongoing IT projects and initiatives.
- Collaborate with vendors and service providers for hardware procurement and warranty
services.
- Document all hardware-related activities, including repairs, upgrades, and maintenance tasks.
8. Compliance and Security
- Ensure that all hardware installations and configurations comply with organizational
standards and policies.
- Implement security measures to protect hardware and data from unauthorized access or
damage.
- Assist in securing physical access to computer systems and devices.

Skills and qualifications

Educational Requirements
- Diploma or associate’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related
field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Cisco IT Essentials) are a plus.
- Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a computer hardware technician or similar role.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong technical skills in assembling, configuring, and repairing computer hardware.
- Knowledge of computer components, architecture, and peripherals.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing hardware issues.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Good communication skills and ability to interact with end-users.
Working Conditions
- Full-time position, may require occasional after-hours work for emergency repairs or upgrades.
- On-site role with potential travel to other locations for hardware support.
