Terms of Reference for Qualified Business Coaching and Mentoring Trainer Service Experts to Train Gov’t officials & Local Business Development Mentors

1. Introduction

Alight in partnership with GIZ through the CFSP project is committed to fostering sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable communities, particularly internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities. Many individuals in these groups have shown interest in entrepreneurship but are hindered by a lack of business skills and limited access to financing. To address this gap, Alight seeks to develop and implement a comprehensive mentorship program that will empower local community mentors with the skills and tools to provide ongoing support to aspiring entrepreneurs.

The proposed ToR is aimed at implementation of Activity 3.2. Support Mentoring: Alight will train 15 community members and staff from Ministry of trade on Business mentorship and coaching. The best four from the community will be engaged to provide mentorship services to the small businesses. Mentoring service teams on the ground will be supported remotely by the technical consultant and at critical moments in the business development cycle on the ground to ensure entrepreneurs are supported to develop successful businesses during the project. The mentorship consultant will develop Business mentoring and monitoring tools which will be used by the community mentoring volunteers. Alight livelihoods staff will closely monitor groups and track income and growth to help detect challenges early on and provide guidance as needed.

1.1 Objectives

       The primary objective of this consultancy is to support and train community volunteers to enhance the business mentorship and coaching

       Developing comprehensive business mentoring and Business Performance monitoring tools.

       Providing remote and on-site support to mentorship teams.

       Ensuring that Business mentors receive the necessary guidance to develop successful businesses diagnosis and coaching support

1.2 Purpose  of the TOR:

The purpose of this ToR is to engage a qualified business mentoring service expert who will train local community members on mentorship and coaching around business Good Business Management practices, track Business performance progress and provide business advice to CFSP supported/established enterprises.

2. Description of the Activity

The mentorship program will involve:

       Developing a mentorship curriculum and tools: A structured, competency-based curriculum tailored to local needs and emphasizing practical, hands-on business skills and innovative approaches to entrepreneurship.

       Training of 15 local community mentors: Selected mentors from the community will be trained to deliver mentorship support to aspiring entrepreneurs.

       Business coaching and Mentorship support services: The four (4) selected Local mentors will work closely with target beneficiaries, providing guidance and support in planning,

managing, and growing income-generating enterprises. Ensures beneficiaries are putting into practice business management factors learnt from the business skills training.

       Monitoring and follow-up: Alight, in collaboration will monitor the performance services delivery of the four mentors to evaluate the application of skills learned and their impact on business development of 48 newly established business groups.

3.  Target beneficiaries;

The activity directly targets 15 community members to be trained on mentorship and coaching, in turn, 4 of the best mentees in coordination with the ALIGTH field team will offer mentorship and coaching services to the 48 business groups that Alight would give grants to start business ventures. The purpose of providing skills tp the rest is to improve access to skilled business coaches who can support their community voluntarily or at services cost

Mentors will be selected through competitive process based on their numeracy and literacy skills, commitment and passion for Business coaching. Some of the Key Characteristic traits we will be looking for in the mentors includes and is not limited to the following:

       Must be professional with at least diploma in education, preferably Business management related course,

       Must be a resident of project area and living in Istambul and Gobweyn villages

       Females will be highly preferred to ensure that, women headed households feel comfortable without fear of any possibility of sexual harassment.

       Must have a heart and passion for entrepreneurs that is benevolent, mission driven looks beyond themselves Remain empathetic and aware that startups are extremely hard work.

4.  Deliverable outputs.

This ToR contributes to the one of the activity outputs which is Output 2.1. Target Low-income HH have received Business skills training and mentorship and have improved their business skills development capacity (Knowledge, skills, attitude, and practices) and promote climate-resilient income-generating Businesses in the peri-urban market beyond the agricultural value chain

Develop training manual, Business coaching and mentoring tools, Mentors’ service performance monitoring tools and other relevant documents deemed important to be used for the purpose of the assignment.

The consultant shall ensure that, Business Mentorship services contribute the GIZ CFSP indicator this will contribute to: 300 pastoralists (including 100 women) out of 400 who participated in entrepreneurial training can name three success factors for business management in the context of climate change. Mentors are supposed to work and ensure achievement of CFSP indicator output above and consultant is expected to include this indicator in the service performance monitoring as well as during training delivery.

4.1 Task and scope of work

       Develop a detailed training curriculum in consultation with ALIGHT FSL Project Coordinator and input from GIZ CFSP Project team.

       Develop training manual, Business coaching and mentoring tools, Mentors’ service performance monitoring tools and other relevant documents deemed important to be used for the purpose of the assignment.

       Conduct training sessions for 15 local mentors on business development and mentoring techniques.

       Provide mentorship support to trained mentors as they begin working with target beneficiaries.

       Submit a comprehensive training report outlining key learnings, challenges, and recommendations for ongoing mentorship activities.

       Carryout Trainees competent assessment at the end of the training.

Skills and qualifications

The business mentoring service experts should possess the following qualifications and experience:

       Proven expertise in business development, entrepreneurship, or related fields.

       Experience in providing mentorship or training services to small businesses or entrepreneurs.

       Strong facilitation and communication skills.

       Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and in community settings.

6.      Duration

       The Training of mentors is expected to last 7 days.Thus does not include the days in manual development and post-training competency Assessment of trainees. The consultant is expected to come-up with a comprehensive workplan of which the actual training should NOT be less than 7 days.
