Job description

The main role of the paralegal is to support the ICLA programme on legal assistance aspects as well as the trace and reports on the cases that relates to forced evictions and HLP issue to ICLA team.

Main Roles & Responsibilities:

 

  1. Monitor and collect field level information on risk of eviction or ongoing eviction on daily basis in designed IDP settlements according to a coordinated plan with his/her colleagues, and report to NRC ICLA team.
  2. Monitor and collect information on Housing, Land and Property disputes and report to NRC ICLA teams, and if necessary initiate first steps towards collaborative disputes resolution.
  3. Mobilize community and participate in all ICLA activities (Information session, legal counseling, legal assistance, and training) and support ICLA staff field level related issues. 
  4. Occupy on daily basis (with a shifting mechanism to be agreed on with his colleagues) the ICL listening centre and collect urgent cases and link up with ICLA team. If cases are not urgent, inform beneficiaries on when the ICLA team will be at the centre.
  5. Participation of ICLA field assessment
  6. Participation of ICLA data entry
  7. Conducted other jobs that NRC assigns in field level.

Skills and qualifications

  • Degree  of Law or equivalent university
  • Writing and reading skills both Somali and English
  • At least 3 years of experience in working with protection case management IDP community and know the context well.
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience in community mobilization/leadership
  • Experience working with IDPs and refugees
