Job description
DBG is seeking applications from qualified and talented consultants to conduct CECs, Psycho-Social Support, First Aid and Child protection Training to support the implementation of CARE/ ECHO funded Education in Emergency Project, named; Emergency Education Support for disaster affected Children in Somalia (EESDAC) funded by European union for humanitarian aid and civil protection (ECHO) in a consortium led by CARE. The action seeks to address the primary barriers to education which limits access, attendance, retention, quality of education and child well-being. The project provides basic education and protection for children in schools. More specifically, the consultant will be responsible for the implementation of project Result 3 Component of the project: Increased Safety of the learning environment for school children in Conflicts Prone / affected areas of Somalia.
The consultant will be for a period of 15 days and the successful candidate is expected to undertake a wide range of tasks including conducting baseline assessment and capacity building training for various groups of Education stakeholders on key areas of child protection and child rights issues and Psycho-social supports skills.
Job summary:
Reporting to the Programme Manager, the consultant will be responsible for the delivery of the project Result 3 Component stated above. He/she will work in close coordination with the other Education Programme teams will ensure effective delivery of the result.
Key responsibilities
Assessment
- School based first Aid tarining for some teachers
- Safety of the schools / learning – map out the common hazards / risks faced by the project target schools in line with EIE cluster /Unicef school safety variables and analysis the impact of each in terms of undermining education access opportunities for children
- Child Protection – in line with INEE framework standards, map out the common hazards / risks faced by school children that could likely undermine the development well being and education access opportunity for school children in project target schools
- Mapping out the availability of Psycho social support services ( facilities ) in the project target areas where children who require P.S.S services could be referred to access services ( counselling /medical support )
- Capacity building training
- Develop training modules ( contents ) to train Ministry of Education officials, Teachers and school Care Takers ( CEC, local leaders and security personnel ) on broad areas of school safety and child protection/ rights to enhance awareness and roles in providing safe learning environment for school children
- Using the modules developed, conduct actual training for Ministry of Education officials, Teachers and school Care Takers ( CEC, local leaders and security personnel ) on broad areas of school safety and child protection/ rights to enhance awareness and roles in providing safe learning environment for school children
- Provide specialized P.S.S case management / handlings training to selected number of school teachers and MoE officials ( REO ) to serve as S.S focal persons and ToTs for the schools and MoE office respectively
- Support the school management (Teachers +CECs ) to develop school safety plans for their schools using knowledge gained from the training.
- Reports
- Prepare/consolidate the baseline report to guide the result implementation
- Prepare / Consolidate the Trainings reports
- Prepare specific reports of lessons learnt on the result implementation
- Prepare power presentation on strategies of integrating child protection /rights and P.S.S responses in future Education in Emergency Projects
- Take the lead in collecting, analysing and reporting on relevant indicators achievements for donor reports under Result 3 of the project
- Review internal activities implementation progress and report success, achievement and challenges in relevant periodic progress reports / meetings
Objectives of the assignment
The main objective of the assignment is to enhance the capacity of the CECs and teachers Provide specialized P.S.S case management / handlings skills to selected number of school teachers, CECs and MoE officials (REO) to serve as P.S.S focal persons and ToTs for the schools and MoE office respectively.
Modality of the Training
The training will be conducted for a period of 4 days of two levels. The first two days (Day 1&2) of the training will cover child protection, psychosocial support for all target trainees. 12 selected teachers among the trainees from 12 different project supported school will undergo two extra training days (Day 3&4) on school-based first aid where teachers will learn the skills on how to treat slight injury, diarrhea, deworming and how to sustain the school first aid system
- Scope of the training assignment
The scope of the assignment will include the following:
- Preparatory activities
- Make contact with DBG program teams prior to the training and make necessary logistical arrangements for the trainings;
- Prepare training materials and handouts for the various training components identified.
- Training activities
- Training Teachers and CECs in the specified days.
- Facilitate discussions on challenges experienced in Pss/SGBV and how it affect education Somalia context.
- Reporting activities
- Prepare a detailed training report.
- Support to ensure the training evaluation are documented, collected and analyzed and included in the overall training report.
Skills and qualifications
- Post-graduate or graduate studies in clinical psychology or related topic
- Good technical knowledge on Child Protection and child rights issues in line with UNICEF / INEE standards
- At least 3 years of experiences in psychological and psychotherapeutic interventions, specially working on MHPSS system development for client.
- At least 3 years of previous experiences in providing services to displaced populations, migrants, refugees or conflict affected populations
- Experience in capacity building activities and curriculum development is an advantage.
- Good technical knowledge on first aid and school based first aid training
- Deliverables
- Provide training for CECs and teachers covering the following areas:
(i) PSS, CP and PFA Training
(ii) School Based First Aid Training (Day 3&4)
- Training report.
